I'm thinking about doing something with scoop, the end result will mean the hole will be blocked solid. . . I imagine it extracts quite a bit of heat. . . but it is absolutely needed? :dontknow:

The scoop allows heat to leave the engine bay. Cold air is drawn in from the lower part of the front airdam. Blocking it up will add a tremendous amount of heat to the compartment.

I assumed it would retain SOME heat. . . You think its gonna be significant enough I shouldn't block it? :dontknow:

I think it is enough to know that Volant should never have used the scoop for "ram-air". But, they blocked the scoop (from accomplishing it's true purpose) , and I haven't heard of any problems. :dontknow: I wouldn't do it, if it was my truck tho. ;)

I would say yes, It might not damage anything... but the extra heat can't possibly be good for the paint on the hood...

If you put vents in the hood it would release the hot air:D

May I borrow your plasma cutter? :dontknow:

And your hood to practice on? :D

The Volant blocks the purpose of the ram air as stated above. You have no hood liner since you trashed it. All the additional heat would not be a good idea. Why the F would you want to do that Jimi?

You and your MOTW's.... :thefinger:

We have been here before... Is washing the rig considered a mod? If so, your safe with that. You did a great job on the engine bay from what I saw of the pics.. Was an earlier mod changing or painting all the fluid caps black?

Roz I thought you were getting a canoe or something:D

anyway might as well let the cat outta the bag:D

this is the hood I have, fiberglass, but the scallops do not vent, they have to be modified, the workmanship is the worst I have ever seen, it will take awhile to get it right, but like the idea, the center is higher than the stock one, but its also a ton lighter than the stock unit

Most informative post on this thread. I would like something like that if the scallops were fully functional. That can't be that hard, can it?

I havent messed with it yet to be honest, but I dont think it will, I plan to open the scallops or vents up on the top, then cut a area out from below them to let air out, Plus it seems the scoop is larger, I know its higher.
I look to make sure it wouldnt hurt the structure none and it dont seem so.

I saw that he's taking the best offer. I wonder how low he'll go. Did you pay the full 650 if you don't mind my asking?

but let me warn ya, ours came in cracked on one side of the scoop, like someone had stepped on it during shippin.

the shippin company denied as usuall that they didnt box it. and couldnt get any help or replies from the sellers:dontknow: so kinda stuck with it, but not bad to fix.

I run the Mopar Ram Air set-up and have noticed no difference in engine temp or under hood temp. The amount of air that is let out of the scoop is very little, probably none at speed.

I tottally aggree!!

if you look closely and use common sense, the air comes in thru the scoop, and only at speed, but where does it go?
and the air commin in from the rad? right into the engine compartment.
now all this combine, where does it have to go? out thru the underside of the truck and thru the fenderwells, which we know is not the best places.

Paddy had it right, we do need a cowl hood of somekind. that is why we went with this hood, at least hopefully the vents will extract some of the heat.

I did take out the insert from my scoop and did notice some what less heat under the hood when I stopped, why ? dont know, but did.

Stinks, I like the idea of removing the insert. (Less restrictive?) First I must see how this looks. Second, I'm sorry for your puppy pee pee incident. If you didn't deserve it this time, I'm sure there are plenty of other times a good smack was in order!!:D
