Join the Military?

One more thing to consider....while I think the Armed Services are a noble endeavor, just remember this.....it is not for everybody. You may think that you are cut out for it now, but, wait until you are standing on this imaginary line and gettin' yelled at about your belt not being properly aligned with your shirt and pants.

Fast forward a few years, now you are working in the service of your choice for someone a few years younger than you. (And possibly an Officer, if you go Enlisted.) Can you truly handle that? Are you willing to literaly scrub "shitters"? Can you accept criticism in any form? Would you blindly risk your life for another? There are hundreds of situations...but, these are some of the ones that probably make people rethink their enlistment obligations.

When their are a million "Pro's" to a consideration, there are always a million more "Con's".......make sure you know that military life is not easy. SERIOUSLY! Been doing this for 11 years and sometimes shit wears on ya....and sometimes it is 110% worth it. In the end, I will be proud of my accomplishments. However, I have seen quite a few good guys decide they couldn't make it....:(
Also one other thing since your married already, although you may be able to handle will your spouse? Because to be honest if your enlisted and married and under the rank of e4 base housing is shit. If you plan on staying married and she is not a military brat of some sort, in my honest opinoin dont do it. Because it will put more stress on you then you may want. But if you want to join the military and keep your marriage then look into the coast guard. Even the guard maybe good but if she in her heart doesn't think she can handle being away from you at 6months to a yr at a time without fooling herself then you really need to talk to her before you do anything. It would be different if you where not married but now the decision is about both not just one. Just my pennies worth.

Those are cool... but I hope he got them declassified. The pictures clearly state longitude and latitude on the screen of where they are. :(

That is one of my main concerns, not getting the MOS I signed up for. Whats is MEP's?

Military Entrance Processing...

I think that Kris has given you some SOLID advice on all of this! It can be very rewarding, but it can be tough too.

And, being a veteran myself, I would never try to talk someone out of joining, but... I know that the military has been the downfall of many a marriage. (My ex tries to blame my time away on our divorce. But, I know that she is just a cheating whore. :D)

Choose wisely, it is not something that you can just give back if you don't like it. There is no 30 day money back guarantee.

no thank god he is still here. says it will be next year before he has to go. i pray daily they will get it wrapped up before then but he sounds confident when he talks about it like its not a big deal. damn youngsters, still bullet proof....lol

ive thought about it more times thatn i can count an will more than likely join after i get my degree and pilots licens.... thats almost a 100% sure way to make it into Flying lol Avaition Science Degree and a pilots licens... it's a shoe in lol or so i'm told from the guys i've talked to

make sure you read the fine print. most likely they will tell you 3 years or so, in reality you're on call for 8, might want to keep that in mind.... Screw the military, join the Fire Dept...... LAFD!!!

I am Active Dute Air Force. Considering your married, Airforce is the only way to go. Much better quality of life. If i could go back and do it over, i would be air national guard or air reserve. At least make some calls and find out what they can offer.

unless its 0311
Every Marine is an 0300, at least that's the way it was. Then most go on to training for a primary MOS, so that they can support the O3's. hehehe

A lot of Marines end up with multiple MOS's, or once again at least it used to be that way. I was 0311,0321,0341,0351,0221.......but at the end of the day I was pretty much just a grunt, and proud of it.

As someone else said, if you can go airwing, that ain't a bad gig at all. My Brother-in-law is currently at Miramar, and he's got it made.

I spent 4yrs in the Coast Guard. Spent some time with Navy and Marine's. Being married raises the biggest flag in my hindsite view. Pretty tough the first couple years on relationships. Id seriously look at Airforce or Coast Guard for those concerns.

On the other hand what really appealed to me about the Coast Guard was no promises, nothing in writing beforehand. Everyone had to prove their worth in the field before being eligible for promotion and/or schooling. Navy, Airforce etc all promised me the moon. Navy went so far as to offer E4 rank and $ bonus if I completed Bootcamp....but that was a while ago.

Yeah, the wife's happiness is my main concern, and the AF seems to be the way to go. It seems that the only person that wants me to join something other than the Airforce is the Marine Recruiter:p go figure:D
