I know that soudns impossible, but I want to give props to one of the reporters on CNN. (Didn't catch her name)

She is reporting on the fires in California, and the anchor asked her what the big difference was between the response we are seeing in Ca. vs. what happened in La.

She replied, "The difference is Leadership!" From the governor to the mayor and right down the line. We are seeing the leadership out here and making a difference. In New Orleans there were times when you didn't know where the mayor was, and the governor too." she goes on, "The response here was so much better because of the leadership. We have all kinds of people here from low income to high, all races and walks of life, the difference is leadership."

This is refreshing because I have seen other stories where people are questioning the response saying that it is better because the people in the area are rich white people. That is ludicrous!! the difference is that the state was better prepared, and acted accordingly. That never happened in La.

So, Kudos to CNN!!

Yea, but it's all because of Global warming!! Just ask the Democrats!!

I'm shocked that as of yet no one has blamed the president.

Bill.

I think the wonderful response to the problems in southern California is because Scooter is now higher in the FEMA organization.

Maybe everyone learned something from the unfortunate way Katrina was handled............... :dontknow: Regardless, the Govenator did step right up and take Kontrol ....

I think it was the quality of the people that live in San Diego as well.... As she said, all races, ages, and walks of life..... I didn't see ONE SINGLE report of looting on the news. Not one riot.... The Qualcomm Center is peaceful, clean, and lawful (hell, it even looks like the folks are in good spirits!)..... I don't think a tragedy like this could have went any better. :dontknow:

Actually the looting is occuring.....A bud of mine is Army Reserve...they are down there for looting....

but so far the only arrest that I saw on TV was 2 sixteen year olds that broke into a house and stole BEER.....

that isn't looting...that is Youth.....;)

Go ahead and read this one. I wish I could find a live vid of this interview, but can't. An ABC news person tried to push Arnold on how unprepared they were. He should have squeezed her bony neck between his massive biceps:) Ya, what do you think about that you puny little girl:D

Very nice! Here's the vid: http://newsbusters.org/static/2007/10/2007-10-24-ABC-Shipman.wmv

:rock::rock: Arnold that rocked!

I love the comments below the article! This one in particular caught my attention:
  1. Florida hurricanes. Capable Republican governor. Devastation but best possible response.
  2. California wildfires. Capable Republican governor. Devastation but best possible response.
  3. Lousiana hurricane. Incompetent Democrat governor. Devastation, slow response.
Hmmm .... right ... must be the federal government's fault.

With the caveat that it does take responsible people to react the right way. This does not imply that social standing has anything to do with it. Rich, Poor, middle-class and homeless all have a responsibility to do the right thing.

Some would say that this was so much different than Katrina because the fires happen over a longer period of time, so people had more warning. I say Poppy Cock! How long did that hurricane churn through the Gulf of Mexico? How many channels on TV carried news of it coming, and constantly showed a projected path heading straight for New Orleans?

I am not speaking of the response, only the peoples' responsibility and reaction to evacuation orders. The leaders responses were very different, and that is making a HUGE difference in the response and subsequent recovery efforts. The difference is that the leadership in California was prepared, and immediately asked for help!

Sorry, I'll get down now....

:D

Sorry, but I thought the levies broke in N. Orleans..... and that is what caused the flooding. I'm sick of hearing Katrina get blamed for a ENGINEERING ISSUE. Katrina hit Biloxi, MS, NOT New Orleans. And the funny thing is, Biloxi/Gulfport is almost completely back to normal.

Good point, that is what caused the flooding. And granted, the flooding was the worst part, in NO. But, if people had evacuated like they should have, the loss of life would have been significantly lower. Either way, in my eyes it was a failure of their leadership. PERIOD! It is this same failing leadership that is responsible for the lack of rebuilding of the "Chocolate City". IMO

"Tell me again why they voted him back into office Mommy...."

With that, I agree 100%.
