I'd think w/ all this new rubber and cal tracs cutting at least a 1.8 every time should be easy right?..........WRONG!!!

There has to be a different technique I'm not doing at the launch as I'm used to running on a tire w/ less traction.

I'm still in the 2.0 to 1.9 range. Last night I was launching at 5,300 rpm and the truck was hooking but bogging below 3,000 rpm for a sec right after the clutch grabbed. I'm thinking I either need to try ditching the toneau and/or tail gate.....or.....get into the gas harder right as i'm letting out the clutch Keep in mind I can't floor it until after 3,000 rpm cause the nos comes on at WOT.

How do I stop this bog?

Launch at Redline?

What say you guys?:dontknow:

you need a programmed delay in your Nos so you can flooor it.....

Also keep in mind those tire will get better after 5 or so hard burn outs.....

YEah that'd be nice and work good.....but I'm too simple for that. I can see a NOS activating button on the shifter handle would come in real hand for this. I wonder what would happen If I just mashed it right at the dump.....maybe I can get the NOS on right out of the hole and never even let it get under 3,000?? Spray it right outa the hole. Is it REEEAALLLYYYY dangerous to activate the NOS below 3,000rpm? What happens there?

Yeah I did notice a big difference in the tires this time at the track versus the first! They definately HOOK!

the only way to stop the bog is more power, or higher RPM's. Each truck acts differently to different mods. I would try what works best for your truck. If your bogging @ 3k, then pick it up to 3500, or 4k...also work with the tire pressure and don't fall in love with 1 set PSI. Your also on drag radials correct?? Daniel sprayed right off the line and pulled some 1.8's w/ drag radials, so it can be done....but I wouldn't hope for "drag-tire" 60 foot times though :) you gotta give (shaving calipers) to take (60 ft times) for that, but 1.8's isn't bad at all with radials!! Your almost there with the 1.9's though...

I watched Jerry/Trainman run at Bakersfield with the same tire. He was cutting 1.80's 60' consistantly. I believe he did just a short dry hop and drove around the water box. You might want to confirm this with him. I think he also had 4.56's.

There are really only three things you have to do to be consistant.

Practice, Practice, Practice. :burnout: ;) :burnout: ;)

Jacks got it bro , practice.

Also its hard onthe clutch but you can feather it to keep the rpms up, and that really takes practice.

Thats why I say when ya drop the clutch bump the nos at the same time, then as soon as you go 60 pop off, roll good then back in it.

Also play with tire pressure, you DO want a small amount of spin on line it helps keep the rpms up to where its at:D

I think its the 411 gears that are killing you and causing all that bog. If your not gonna SC, maybe you should upgrade to 456. With NOS I cant imagine having 488's, rpms would go up way too fast.

Also if you can afford it Nowwhat has the best answer if ya can ramp up your nos, from the dig, and that my brother should put you in the low 11's

I can tell you like the nos, I would pm Nowwhat and talk with him about a ramp up system and just see how you can do it cheaply for now.

Or you may be able to two stage or three stage, and do a 50 or 75 shot off the line, then stage 2 go 100 and stage three do what you want:D

My first thought was the gears. 4.56 would help and he wouldnt have to nearly max the motor above 5000 rpm to launch.

I will be trying out my set of slicks and new Computer Friday night, I had to shave my brakes down to get them to fit. I have a set of M&H racemaster slicks, I got from Boomer. I am going to launch around 4,500 RPM and see what happens

Stock clutch still holding up? Dont slip it at all, she'll burn up like a piece of toast!!!

Just remember Rice....just when you get it where you want....it will be completely different next time out...

Vprpwr was running Cheater slicks whe he spray out of the hole....keep that in mind.....

Go with a trigger and the window switch....

Nitrous causes a really fast burn and the motor is not quite spinning fast enough to safely use below 2500/3000 rpms. You can use a rpm window swith along with your WOT switch to activate the nos so you don't have to worry about the rpm.

As far as launching, I feel it's pointless to 'dump' the clutch off the line if you're not at WOT (I assume that's what your doing) the rpm will come down too low as you found out. You will need to try and keep the rpm at a point you like and ride the clutch out as fast as you can without blowing the DR's off. The guy that bought my truck ran a 1.89 (and a lot of 1.9-2.0) 60' on stock tires at 17 psi buy riding the clutch out at about 3000-3500 rpms. Granted that was also with 4.56's that do help a lot. Just my $.02 :D

Amen, I ran 1.98 60' with stock tires at 22 psi the first time out with the red truck. Stingray has the "launch sequence", drive it out agressivley against the tires, using the clutch.

This will take a lot of practice to develop the finess to do it correctly.

Please check the Mikey thread!!!:) Sorry to Ho around...but I'm doing it for what I believe in....I know you guyz understand!!!:) Thats why I'm Krazy......

I dont think you need 456 gears, at your speed you are going to have to shift to 5th. I hit my best 60 foots when i had my snug lid and my tail gate off. I would give that a try first. It wont cost any money to do that.

Like Mike said....I sprayed out of the hole and that was on Hoosier QTP DOT cheater slicks and they were only 28"x12.5"x16" if I remember correctly but they got me a best at an 1/8 mile track of a 7.2@94MPH with a 1.60x 60'

I would just dump the clutch at 4500 while spraying as soon as I hit the gas, I had the nitrous switch on a t handle on the shifter, not the safest method but it worked:D

I agree with this as the truck will run out of gear and RPM in 4th.
I really think that this will come down to driving skill. Wheel time and practice are what's needed to get the times you want. These trucks are hard to drive stock, modded things get even more intense and touchy.

Lots of folks sit in the stands and say "I could do that", but it is a lot harder than it looks. Combinations are changed, track conditions change, air changes. All this keeps the tuner/crew chief and driver on a continuing quest to keep consistant.

Keep a log book of every change you make to the truck and keep a detailed run log of where/track, date, time of day, sunny/cloudy/dark, lane run in, reaction time, starting line/launch RPM, 60', 330', 660' ET, 660' MPH, 1000' ET, 1000' MPH, 1320' ET, 1320' MPH, air temp, humidity, vapor pressure, air density, corrected altitude, track temperature, wind speed, wind direction, tire pressure front/rear, vehicle weight. Number of runs on the tires, type and duration of burnout.

Jeggs and Summitt have those logs available.
