leak down tester

got my leak down tester saturday,,,directions say remove all plugs and rocker arms ,,,,

is this usual ,,,the old iron magnum is filling catch can up every 250 miles or so ,,but runs fine ??,,anywho anyone ever do there own leakdown before :dontknow:

Hi Ironhead,
Yup, I've done lots of leakdown tests. I have never removed rockers before.
I guess what they are trying to say is to be sure both valves are closed. Removing rockers would definitely do that..;)

now ,,,cylinder top dead center or all the way down ???:dontknow:
 
just remove the valve covers...although I paid almost $50 for ONE gasket one time (stealership) maybe not a good idea

the best way is to remove all the rockers bud, that way is the actual best way unless you know for sure the valves are getting close, and tdc is at top

If the piston is somewhere near the top, it can go down once the air hits it..but if it is at true t.d.c. it will likely stay put.
And of course if it is near the bottom, it isn't coming up!
If you leave "the rest" of the plugs in, it won't roll over as easily. I've done some engines esp, with high spring pressures, that didn't move much at all...
