I have been a member on the forum for a long time. I post here and there, but there rarely goes by a computer login that I don't hit the forum for a look and everything. So its going to come as no suprise that I have read how everyone loves there none oem or should I say there none oem pos shifter(sorry hurst I gave you let me see a dozen phone call's. If you where part of one of the LARGEST AFTER MARKET parts companys in the world MR GASKET or as they refer to themselves "EVERYTHING PERFORMANCE" then come on what the heck how much r&d would it take there like 300 or so engineers in house to build me and you and all SRT -10 RC owners some dam shifter that had more than a bic pen spring in it. All I wanted was a adequite shifter that said freaking hurst on it. But I digress). I really could't afford the x-metal shifter it looks like a mechanical masterpiece, but if spend 500+ clams on a shifter. I kept pondering buying one from the b&m group buy from a vendor in california but for like a think 249.00 plus shipping, but just never did. Then over last weekend I was talking with JMB Justin at his shop and he showed my his b&m and said how well he liked it and how it performed(did mention I love his traction kit!!! but again back to the point.) So I'm surfing the internet and find on ebay a b&m shifter from a non vendor of the forum so I won't say there name but I did recieve a free speed t-shirt with purchase if thats a hint. I order it on tuesday for 228.95 and hold on folks free dam shipping, my total cost for this ingenuise little devise 228.95. Hold on folks It gets crazier it's delivered on weds to my house not even 48 hours later( I mean my overnight on my axim from dell was like three days!!! but back to the point) So I get this installed thursday and I take truck for a little spin and holly crap my truck actually has a third gear and it's actually after second, not I'm in first, I'm in second, dam where's third, whoops there it is, ok now I'm sortta in it. And I can even downshift now, who "would'a thunk it". So the moral of the story is kids if your on the fence about a aftermarket shifter, no matter if its a x-metal gen shifter or a b&m shifter buy the dam thing you DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR MISSING!!!!!! And to Gary at x-metal and the B&M shifters engineers thanks for the work you do for us, and most of all to the engineers at Hurst you @#$%!!!:burnout: :burnout:

Okay, where do I start.

I guess first off I have to come to the defense of Hurst. This is an OEM shifter that was designed to a specification that DC defined. I have written a few specifications over the years and generally the supplier gives me what I ask for. If I ask for something good (in other words, did I do my job right) I get something good. If you ask for a piece of shit, that is what you get. Some of the better suppliers will tell you, you are stupid, but some don't.

I'm also pretty sure that there was a price requirement that had to be met. And since we are such a limited production run, I'm guessing less than 7,000 RC's total for all years, Hurst could not use the economy of scale to recoup their development costs.

The short version of the above is Hurst gave DC what they requested. I would not lay all the blame on Hurst for this.

So, is it a POS? Yes, pretty much. You can improve it by removing the rubber isolator and that helps considerably. That is what I did as I really like the looks of the Hurst shifter.

I'm hoping that someday Boomer will manufacture a base that allows you to utilize the Hurst arm and ball.

I disagree John...

No matter what the product is and the name of the company is on it, it will reflect on the company that produced it.

If Hurst could not produce a product that met the standards at a certain price then they shouldn't of produced it.

Dodge went to great lengths to promote that their SRT-10 truck had a "Hurst" shifter. At least both parties should of assured that it was of the right quality.

Just my 2 cents...

Very true statement.

Bean counters run companies, not the engineers. I would be willing to bet that you could find engineers within the developmental department that did not like what was produced.

Once again I will agree with you. However there are many examples of where companies allow their name to be associated with a product, and they later regret that decision.

Just my 2 cents...

Not really sure that we disagree or not Will.;)

I agree with you too John. What should make sense gets turned upsidedown when bean counters start having control...

actually gents you are both right. DC actually asked for a cheaper item, oh sorry a more cost effective. But if you had a company with the history of hurst wouldn't you push the point and build a product that fulfills your image. but secondly I contacted hurst and I was promised a rubber isolator replacemant kit last march of 06and was told they were in the middle of a move back east. and thirdly if I was hurst I might have the manufacturing templates, scematics, jigs, etc from the original and could make a product faster and more cost effective than boomer or b&m with the resourses they have at their disposal. but its all good.

If I remember correctly, you might want to make B&M aware of the problem due to the fact they bought Hurst...

I want to get Boomer's shifter for just this reason. I want to support the guy that put so much into making us happy, but I also want to make sure it is what I want... Does the B&M resonate like I am hearing the X-metal shifter does?

no not a peep. I've drove it around friday night and it was quite as the stock one.

This is what happen with STS and Roe. It was an STS turbo with the management system from Roe. But all Roe did was provide exactly what STS asked. A cheap version of the VEC2.

Bottom line.....Mo and everybody else, whether its x metal or B&M, its a huge upgrade over the stock Hurst shifter. If it was just a dodge shifter we probably would not be so surprised at how much it sucks....but because dodge marketed this truck with a "Hurst" shifter we expected so much more. Turns out all we got was a stock shifter with the Hurst name on it.

It sits on a shelf in my garage......which is where it performs best.

You've hit the nail on the head Maui.

Thanks dude.

I have had my gen 1 x metal shifter in and out over the last two years(dealers visits).........plain and simple, the stocker is horrible going into third and downshifting.

maybee everone just needs a right hand drive conversion....mine works fine over here ......touch wood...

Some one want to send me a free one of each to try out, I can dream.

I really can't say that I have any trouble with the Hurst, not enough to make me want to through money into one that I may not like any better then what I have.
