Guys,

Just got my truck delivered tonight. I bought it from a dealer in Illinois (Auto Showcase of Carol Springs...they seem to have a lot of high-end vehicles). It is as described... outstanding shape. There are a some scratches on the inside of the tailgate, and its obvious the original owner used it as a truck. Otherwise, it looks new. I got underneath as they were unloading it off the flatbed, and it is clean, clean, clean. Interior is spotless.

Nothing a BedRug won't fix ... I have it sitting here thanks to Stinker!

1) It did NOT come with an Owner's Manual. Is my local Dodge dealer the best place to pick one up? I'm a hot-rodder... gotta have an owner's manual. I don't even know how big the gas tank is, much less how much oil the crankcase holds! Radio controls/navigation?... right now I'm on my own.
2) The previous owner must've taken off the wing at least once. The two bolts that hold it on in the front are GONE! The thing seems secure and all, though. How does the wing come off? Looks like it has to be slid backwards and then it will lift off, correct?
3) After a 15 min drive, the trans temp never got to the 160^ mark. Is this typical?
4) Engine coolant temps stabilized at ~200^F. I assume this would mean it has the stock t-stat in it (truck looks completely stock down to the paper filter), and is also a typical reading for a stock truck.
5) Did a few 10-70 sprints. Downshifts into 1st quickly, spins the tires a little, hooks and then barks 2nd gear on the upshift. My butt-o-meter says it'll run high-13s, which I guess is how it is advertised. It shifts right at ~5500rpm. Will a tuner be able to raise the shift points? The engine is still pulling well... I wouldn't see why it couldn't pull to 6000.

I will get some pics tomorrow (just delivered today at ~4:45pm, so it got dark quick). The front end took some bugs on the drive down, but otherwise it is still really clean from the dealer bath. It's nothing you guys haven't seen anyway... being a stock, silver QC.

Let the mods begin!

The Tune will take care of some of this stuff Wes ...

Welcome ...... Get your wallet out ... Where's the PICS.

   Jim

Welcome to the club! You pretty much answered your own questions very well, sounds like you've done a little homework,I would'nt bump the shift over 5800,my truck drops off at 5725rpm on the dyno,so no point in having it shift above that really, sounds like you already have the "MOD BUG",so enjoy the new ride and get a SCT tuner to get rid of the "torque management system" that is in the stock PCM,wakes it up lots!

SCT tuner, DC flash or BG flash will help out a ton on performance although it sounds like it runs great:rock:

I would contact Dragon on the manual I am sure he can get you one:rock:

Then personally I would give it a good once over, oil, tranny, rear axle, plugs at the very least.

remove the pcm and look for a tag, it will let you know if it has been flashed.

otherwise you aare headed for CC debt:p
headers, mids, CAI, cat back, throttle body, blah blah blah:D

Oh an on the pm, you are making the correct choice my friend:rock: ;)

Never do it before you are sure:marchmellow:

Great advice as always Tony.

biggest mods for the buck on my qc are as follow:sct from roe racing (with 170 tstat and he has awesome customer service) and catless mids. also added cai and catback. runs mid 13's on relatively slow track with crappy 60 ft times.

Excellent info so far, guys.

Thank you. I e-mailed Roe today b/c I figure there is a good chance I'll end up with a Roe blower at some point, and getting an initial tune from him will probably make it easier when the tune needs to be modified for the blower.

I was already planning on the initial mod list you guys mentioned... CAI, SCT or Stage II tune and t-stat. I really cannot run catless mids where I live. I guess as long as the PCM is tuned so that it won't throw a code, then it could... b/c we just have the typical OBD-2 scan test for inspections. They don't do an actual sniffer test.

How hard is it to install headers on these trucks? It sure looks like there's a lot of room to work under the hood and under the truck! On the Lightning, its a royal pain to do headers (so I had someone else install them), and same goes for my Vette.

Tony... yeah, I'm definitely going to do an oil change ASAP. I've got to get the truck inspected and titled here in TX, so most likely I'll just take it up to the local Dodge dealer and let them change the oil and look it over. I'm always changing fluids before their time...but right now I don't even know the typical maintenance schedule without an Owner's Manual:mad: :p

Anyone know how to remove the wing propery? I don't want to do any damage to the paint out of ignorance. What about the two missing screws? I have no clue what size they are... if I'm going to leave the wing on, I'd like to get screws for it just for peace of mind.

Ok, well I've got a big rubber mallet... maybe that is indeed what it will take. Obviously not a one-person job, though. I'd hate to have one side slide off too quickly. I'll search. I realize a lot of the things I'm asking have probably been asked before... so thanks everyone for your patience.

I can give ya a blow by blow instruction, my brother and I did the Headers, Hi-flow mids, magnaflow. In 7 hours, sixpack, swearing, muscle, and a few skinned knuckles.

Jim

Regarding removal of the rear wing, I found this posted by Stinker last year:

"LOLOL actually you are supposed to have a tool kit in a small bag, in there you will find a wrench. under the rail of the bed under the wing you will find a bolt , use the wrench provided and it will work fine"

Guess that disappeared along with the owner's manual. It's something small, but still an issue when purchasing used.

As I said, mine doesn't even have the 10mm bolts. If anyone has the thread size, bolt length of the bolts, please let me know. I probably need to install them.

Here ya go fast

and again, youmight want to contact Dragon I am sure he can get the kit also.

but if ya need I will take mine off and see what sizes you need bo.

the headers........piece of cake:rock: jsut remember to get a new set of header gaskets, and to remove the dadgum battery cable;) yyyyeeeoooowww! what fireworks:D

WA 2 FST Welcome. From one newbie to a "just finished being a newbie" when you take the wing off, just so you know, the bolt hiding behind the tail lights only needs to be turned a little. I thought it was gonna come out. After turning that thing forever, i realized that it just releases everything. Just a little word to the wise. Got any audio/video questions, just send me a PM (Only expertise I have right now).

Thanks so much guys.

I went outside (turned on all my spotlights) and removed the wing. Since I don't have the two bolts that hold it down, just a little bumping with my hand...and it came right off. Piece of cake. Now that I know it comes off that easy, it helps me make a decision about which tonneau cover I want, too.

I don't haul a lot of junk in the back of my truck... most often its just a few tools and/or baseball equipment for the Jr. High team I coach. But my job (rental real estate owner/manager) means every now and then I will load up a little lumber or a ladder here and there. If the wing was a pain to take on an off, then it might have to just stay off. But as easy as that was... I'll be able to leave it on 99% of the time. :)

Now I just need the two bolts... thanks to the original owner who was obviously too lazy to reinstall them.

I also spent some time learning the stereo setup along with the Nav system (they did leave the Nav disc in the glove box). I didn't realize this thing had satellite radio capabilities... cool. Now I can be like my wife in her gadget-ridden Denali. :p

Still gonna track down an Owner's Manual ASAP.

So is that a trans oil temp gauge on the driver's pod, or engine oil temp? It just says "oil", so I assume engine oil?

Headrers are easy to install it took me about 2 hours for the whole system. It is the engine oil temp. And I sent my comp to DC performance, that was the best seat of the pants bang for the $$$. Dan at DC is a great guy, he will take care of you. The program upped the rpm's to 6000 and you feel them all, shut off the touque managment, lowered the fan temp switch, added a 170* termostat, runs nice and cool, and the 10 shifts better.
Call Dan at DC Performance he will set you up. Welcome!

Thanks, Brad. That sounds exactly like what I'm looking for in all aspects. 2 hours for an exhaust system is amazing. Did you have access to a lift? Which set of high-flow cat mids did you get? Did you have to fab anything with the Belangers and then using the aftermarket mid-pipe along with a Magnaflow cat-back?
