I just bought the Magic Jack in an effort to downsize expenses. The Magic Jack cost me $40 for the device and the first year of phone service is included. Each additional year costs $19.95 . The phone service consists of free local and long distance in USA, Canada, Rico, and US Virgin Islands. Hell it even comes with free 411, call forwarding, callerID, and voicemail. I pay over $40 per month for my land line that has minimal options.

Who has the Magic Jack and how do you like it? Mine is working excellent so far.

I have heard mix reviews. Good points are quality and price. Bad is something to do with tracking your internet sites and such.

One of my customers has had it for right at a year now. He loves it. We installed a laptop into his truck with usb hubs and even installed a home telephone that plugged into the hidden magic jack!! He wanted a phone in his ride that would not have long distance or roaming. It looked pretty bad ass. We made a mount and flushed the cordless phone in his center console of his FJ cruiser.

I have one in one of our smaller offices for all outgoing calls. That way we were able to delete a line and never have a busy signal for clients calling us. We have had problems with it breaking in and out and kinda static. But it has saved some $$$.

difference between vonage and magic jack is that vonage has a monthly reoccuring cost where magic jack is yearly reoccuring at a LOT lower cost. I just got mine a couple of weeks ago and am working out some bugs, but it is worth it for me for the savings! BTW you can get these at Radio Shack and I heard that walmart will be carrying them also (as opposed to ordering online).

One downside is they don't have phone customer support. It is live chat. I have not used that.

My thoughts are keep your land line and buy magic jack. Get all of the kinks worked out of it and then drop the land line.
