Well yesterday was my worst day during my short ownership of this truck...

I was on my home from camping and i was all but 5 min away from my house when the truck decided to take a :toilet: As far as me and my dad could figure it sounded like a pushrod. The #7 piston has just the worst banging going on. I'm not even sure as to how to describe it sound wise properly.. kind of like the usual injector noise but a lot louder and a lot more metal banging together.. :(

I did have a few questions on this issue as i need some direction. My plan was going to be in this order.. Drop Kit/Air Bags/Traction -- Tranny/Rear End -- Engine Build. With the Engine coming in a years time and the other two being done this winter while the snow flies.

So now with the rods failing am i going to be price wise deep enough to justify pulling the engine now and forging the internals.. take into account that i'm looking at a full build as my goal in the end is to be upwards of 900 to 1000 rwhp. I'm not too sure at the price of this job (to fix the pushrods),, or if this is all it will need.. the truck did still run without any misses, it just had the terrible knock!!

This just plain out and out sucks............ i had the stupid thing planned out and was trying to take it easy with my tune and boost so that i could keep everything in order, oh well :dontknow:

sorry to hear that......... bummer.

makes me hesitate even more on forced induction on stock internals....... keep us posted on developments....:(

Still have oil pressure?
Who did your tune?
How were you driving it?
Did you check header/exhaust gasket's?

Kind of odd...I just logged 1300 miles on the road with this thing, and notta problem:dontknow:

Not to belittle...just getting more info. TIA

To minimize damage do not run it any longer, or you may run the risk of destroying the block.

Since you have a goal HP wise that you want to acheive, build it with that mind. Otherwise you will just end up doing it again, and the majority of the money you spend on the first rebuild will be down the drain.

From what I have seen time wise, if you start now you may have it ready to run in the spring. Seems to take a while to rebuild these beasts unless you are planning on doing a lot of the work yourself.

Good luck and keep us informed on how it goes. I know a lot of folks will want to know specifically what happened to it also.

To start with, it sounds like you need to figure out what is wrong. It may not be as bad as you think.

I'd start by pulling/checking the plug and see if anything is going on in the chamber. I'd also pull the valve cover and see if you threw a pushrod.

You can do this stuff for no cost and maybe figure out what the issue is and then go from there. :dontknow:

Yep i would pull all the plugs & both valve covers. Also change the oil see if you see or feel any metal, and you might cut apart the filter and have a look @ that also, good luck.

Concur, fluids and look for metal.

Pushrods alone are inexpensive. Sounds like a good time to start your upgrade.

Yup oil pressure was fine.
It's the Roe tune card. 91 Octane & Meth
I was pulling a trailer, in tow/haul mode.
Header and exhaust is fine.

No worries on the questions at all, i'm no where near a gear head!

That's what i was wondering, if it ends up being just pushrods and they are less then 1000 i don't see myself yanking the engine in the middle of summer. :) Rather wait for winter to do that and get my Tranny/Rear-End done this winter.

I pulled most of the plugs and there were no issues, at the time i didn't have proper tools to get the covers off.. :( It's sitting at my dad's house, since i was lukily only a couple blocks away.. but a good 4-5 miles from my own house. I'll see if i can yank them today without having to move it... those tow bills are expensive!!

Oh if it does end up being pushrods what would someone recommend for a set of forged rods? I know that i trust me shop to do the work,, just not for parts. ;)

I got hardened. larger diameter pushrods from Comp Cams for my build.

7.65", but measure them to be sure.
Roe or Boomer carry them.

Good luck on the diagnosis....

just one note...a build will take 2x as long as you think so you might as well start now.....:dontknow: .....

Ah good, maybe it will work out and i can get my drop kit and push rods at the same time!

Another question, when i first purchased this truck i had full intention of putting a set of twin turbos in her, but the HP bug got me and i couldn't wait :). Is there a certain way to build an engine for a supercharger vs turbocharger?? I don't plan to use Nitrous, but is it much more to build for it? I'm sure if i get twins on it i don't think Nitrous will be of much use.. :D Traction will be bad enough when those two spool up..!

I had initially planned for 4-5 months on the build, we usually get winter from November to March here..

Let me know if you want to sell the ROE blower!!

pushrods are $200.00 from boomer, measure them when you take them out they are supposedly 3 different lengths for these motors, thats what dave at roe racing told me.
