America's love affair with the automobile is legendary. Our culture and heritage are defined by it. The World Street Challenge is a part of the culture that encompasses all of us who live it.
World Race Events has provided the Drag Racing community with the one annual race that is a "must do" for anyone serious about performance.
For 2008, we will be offering our fans over 750 drag race participants, 1,500 car show entrees, and over 40,000 fans jamming the state-of-the-art Gateway facility.
On May 15 - 18, 2008 hundreds of the top drag racers from the U.S. and abroad will battle it out for the richest guaranteed cash purse in the history of Door Slammer Drag Racing. Over $155,000.00! This gives the World Street Challenge fans the most competitive racing they will only see once a year - at one event! The World Street Challenge!
The World Street Challenge is being held at Gateway International Raceway in Madison Illinois, just over the bridge from St. Louis, Missouri. Gateway International Raceway is a premier site for the World Street Challenge and its additional entertainment and expos. The Drag Race and all other happenings will be staged in separate locations through out the facility.
Gateway's layout and size allows all of the WSC events to be located in their own designated areas with the convenience of proximity.
We are expecting a record number of race cars, show cars, manufacturers, and fun-loving fans! The most important part of making this all happen is the beautiful, spacious, and professional setting of Gateway International Raceway.
The massive Auto Show Spectacular will feature over 70 classes of competition. Plus all Auto Show registrants will be able to show their car with the same comfort of having their own numbered parking space.
As expected from an all out event of this magnitude, one of the biggest draws to our event is the monster Manufacturers' Midway. This WSC Midway will allow you to interact with over 300 manufacturer's to make sure you find that go-fast part for your race car or the must have accessories to show it off!
As for performance, Gateway International Raceway is always prepped to the highest standard of the NHRA. This racing surface will be in tip-top shape for record setting performances in every class at the World Street Challenge this year.
Pro Mod is the top draw at WSC, and this year we'll pay $35,000 to the winner of this class with the fastest Door Slammers in the world battling it out in the 6-second zone at over 225 mph! Chuck Samuel, Doug Mangrum, Les Baer, Billy Glidden, Randy Eakins, Donnie Walsh, Jr., Tony Gillig and John Nobile have won past Pro Mod championships at the World Ford Challenge. Continuing our tradition as innovators in the drag racing industry, we will have 3 Outlaw Classes. Pro-Outlaw this year will feature the madness of "run what you brung" and run it on a 10.5W tire! Street-Outlaw will remain the ten-inch tire freak show and one of the wildest classes in all of heads-up drag racing! And for all you Drag-Radial fans, Outlaw Drag-Radial is back due to popular demand!
The World Street Challenge and the past PRO MOD and Outlaw Champions of the World Ford Challenge are extending the invitations to you.
We will also be offering you the most creative lineup of classes in Drag Racing - classes like Wild Street, Top Truck, Diesel Challenge, and the World Street Shoot Out new in 2008 will host the hottest and fastest of the LS1, Mod Motor, Hemi powered grudge match in the country! World Street Challenge will consist of 14 awesome classes to participate in.
The WSC Technical Director has masterfully adjusted our rules so that with minimal modification, racers from all sanctioning bodies can compete at the World Street Challenge.
It was an amazing decade of Ford Racing that has led us up to this event. We want to thank each and every one of you for your part in making this new mega event possible. WFC has been so special in so many ways. Together we shaped the future of this great sport with larger crowds, record-setting performances, unbelievable purses, good times and great memories.
