This story prolly wasnt talked about much today but its big news IMO.

http://starbulletin.com/2007/10/12/news/story02.html

This is who I look up too in life. Guys like Mike Murphy. Quoted from the article............"Murphy becomes the first Navy service member to receive that distinction for actions in the war on terrorism. He is the third armed forces service member to receive the medal since the beginning of Operations Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and Iraqi Freedom. Murphy is also the fourth Navy SEAL in history to earn this award, and the first since Vietnam."

Thats a big f#cking deal in my book!!!!

If you want to know the entire story read the book "Lone Survivor" by Marcus Luttrell, you wont be dissappointed.

Doing my patriotic thing by making this post and giving the props our soldiers deserve!

The full text of Medal of Honor citations were part of the reading material that were provided to duty officers when I was at the JFK Center for Special Warfare, at Ft. Bragg.

Reading them brought tears to my eyes every time...

If you are interested...here is a site that has all the citations:

read through just a few so far, but great stories of bravery

Nice post! It makes me sad that something like a Medal of Honor winner goes mostly unnoticed but if someone is to screw up it is all over the tv. Ugghh

Thank you for sharing this. I was unaware!

Mike was a classmate of mine at Officer Candiate School and A friend. I can tell you frist hand there is no one more deserving of this. I was initially going to be assigned to give his family th news of his passing as I was stationed in New York at the time, but thankfully, at least to me, I hadn't recieved all the trainning yet to be a Casualty Assistance Officer, so our Head Quater Staff CACO did it. I found out it was Mike's squad that got hit the day before his funneral and was pretty upset I couldn't make it to the funeral (I was actually recieveing my final CACO trng that day in NJ). His passing really brought the war home for me. As a Sailor, I had previously just sat off the coast and shot Tomahawk cruise missles, and didn't have a good connection with the "ground war" even though my little brother was also over there. I do now and feel even stronger in my convictions that what we are trying to do in Both Iraq and Ahfagnistan is absolutely the right thing to do. EVERY human being deserves the right to live free from persecution and tyranny. Sorry for th long rant, but it's what I feel and having known Mike, I know it's what he felt also. Fair winds and Following seas Murph.

awesome, ive got a book with all the medal of honor stories. im sure this man deserved it. this should have been a top news story, instead we have to watch about paris, lindsay and brittney. blows my mind. RIP Mike

Opps, "Hero"...wow, that tore a tear from my eye.

Nice word Jake.

The Military channel has 1 hour shows about MOH winners. They are very heart warming shows.

Bill.

It's a Damn good thing that the Seals are trained by Marines :D  Other wise it would be hard to charge the enemy in Pink Chiffon dresses :D

May he rest in peace....... and rewarded in whatever comes next..........

Thank you..............
