Microsoft 7

Just ordered 6 laptops from Dell for the office. We've been limping along with XP for a few years now. I refused to go with Vista and almost made the switch to Apple earlier this year as computers were needing service/repairs. Win7 will be last chance for MS to keep this consumer....

Ok finally something I know about, Computers... :)

I have been making a living Running, Operating, Servicing, Building, and about anything else you can think of with computers and networks for the past 31 years.
I go back to the TRS-80 (Trash 80), Commodore 64, Singer Sinclair, the VIC 20 and the Heath (Build your own) Kits. I actually have a copy of DOS 2.0 and a copy of Windows 2.5 (yes there were copies prior to 3.0 and 3.11) I purchase from Bill Gates at a computer show. Never buy a copy of an even numbered DOS... :)
This is an OLD trick from Microsoft. Put out a lot of publicity and get people to buy it and then when the problems pop up the patches/fixes start coming in by the boat load.
Don't become a Beta Tester for Microsoft, stay with Windows XP. It has been out long enough that it is finally Stable and the problems are few.
The BEST Operating System on the market is Unix/Linux (in all of its various forms) the learning curve is big but the payoff is worth it. When God uses a computer he uses UNIX.
Next Best is the MAC OS, built on a Unix Kernel, very friendly user interface and the problems are almost non-existent.
Windows is the last. Poorly written Fat and Bloated code and so many different programs and program languages that do not fit a "Standard" make it extremely slow and prone to failure (BSOD - Blue Screen Of Death).
When a problem does happen there are little or no error codes to tell you what went wrong and how to fix it.
Microsoft constantly changes the standards in an attempt to get closer to the MAC OS. The problem is that the direction that Microsoft went about 15 years ago with Windows NT 3.5 that they cannot get there from here.
Don't get me wrong I use Windows on a Daily Basis and my PC has Windows on it. I am just passing along what I have found to be true over the years.
:) Have Fun Storming the Castle!!!

all windows O.S.'s have issues on first release...... best bet is to wait for the first service pack before you switch....... ;) :)

can't be all bad, they hold 90% of the market.....:D

If you are using vista there is not reason not to upgrade. I have had zero problems since the install at 3 yesterday. Keep in mind this is just what vista should have been . There are none of the driver issues like when vista came out. Just my opinion of course but there is now way i would stick with vista for a year waiting on a service pack.

This will be the first operating system that i've ever bought.... As soon as my tech preview runs out in june!

What a great system!

Yeah. My first pc was running windows 3.1. It was a blazing fast 486dx. I took a course at my local colege in computer understanding. AAAH...just loved the bootup disks and dos.

Dos-BOOT. :D

My Mom's Macbook Pro blew up (for the 3rd time) last week. She's sick of it, and wants to switch back to a PC Laptop. So, I'm going with her to pick out one this afternoon. I'm anxious to mess with Windows 7 and see what it's all about. :)

Does anyone know if Process Explorer still works on W7? I'm a process/resource nazi. :D ;)

Apple good for iphone and graphic design. For business, a PC will always will over just due to networking capabilities... Where is Ntw0rk when we need him...

Vista definitely had issues on release. I wish I had just skipped it altogether . I am just saying that windows 7 is no vista. I have never had such a easy and clean install. Sure if you want to get the best out of your computer you will have to search and install countless drivers. What really shocked me is that on first boot up every thing worked. I had sound , blue tooth mouse worked, it found the home network and i had the internets, when I pluged my printer in it even worked , all this without installing one driver.

I agree with you after vista I would have waited until a service pack to install 7. Since I had to start from scratch any way I said what the hell. I am glad I did. Still have not had one issue since install. I have installed all the drivers for my components . Every thing is working and working fast. So far I am happy with windows 7. Thats not to say that on the first windows update everything will quite:( . Its just working now and working well. Ill let you guys know if I have any issues.

good to know, 7 sounds more like xp on it's rollout - but i had a few drivers issues still.... maybe this 7 will be the best windows yet - we'll see. ;)

I was a beta tester also for Windows 7. Simple answer:

If you have Vista it is worth the upgrade.
If you have XP, hold off awhile unless you really want to upgrade.

I just upgraded from Vista Home Premium to 7 Ultimate. Working fine now but had some problems. Virus protection software, Norton 360 ver 2.0 bit me in the ass. Kept getting BSOD (Blue Screen of Death). Looked like it was a video or memory problem. Took me a day to figure it out. Just be wary to go online and check to make sure your Virus Scan software is compatible with Win7. It is very wrapped around the basic functions of the OS and even though I was running Vista, 7 is different. Only complaint I have with 7 is no classic start menu. Other than that I like it. My only problem with Vista was the lack of functions with the Home Premium Edition I had. After the service packs and updates it was running well. Went with 7 because of the good reviews and wanted the full blown OS.

So far I like it, will just take a little getting used to.

You should have tried the windows 95.:marchmellow:

correctly i have worked with just about every os vista is worse in my opinion than 95 and the even worse windows me. have windows 7 on wife's pc loaded fast and smooth no isues she loves it. as soon as i have spare cash will be ordering a copy for my laptop. took me less than 2 hours to fully reload the system. but i have done many reloads before and i have backup utilities to back up important stuff and restore them to new system once finished :)
