Sure you can, you can also run 15w50 syn...

Really depends on the conditions in which you drive.

Remember we are changing at 3000 mile intervals...

Just finished reading an article in National Dragster...that mentioned some unique approaches to getting an edge in a pinch...one of the things that surprised me was some will run with very little oil in the crank case to lower crank resistance and gain a few thousandths...I would have never imagined that...

But this is not to start another oil discussion thread...it was just to note what I thought was a good price for the oil that many of us use.

Prof,
Not to drag this on but yiou change your oil every 3k? I figured with synthetic I could go 5k or poss even 7.5k?

Without fail. Oil and filter. Change transmission fluid every 5000 (use Mobil 1 Syn ATF).

So regardless of synthetic or not you change the oil and filter every 3k? Do use the mobil one filter? If I use the mobil 1 0w40 and the moble 1 filter it runs around $75. Also, I have the manual tranny...do I still change fluid every 5K? How do I check the level and condition of the fluid?

NO. Use only synthetic.

I use the mopar filter from the parts department at the dealership.

No need to check the fluid in the transmission...just change it. Drain plug on the bottom, refill on the left (driver side of transmission) fill until the fluid starts to drain out of the filler hole. Note: some dealers will not take kindly to your using Mobil 1 Syn ATF. They might void your warranty. My warranty went when I added the supercharger. Tremec (the people who manufacture our transmissions recommend Mobil 1 Syn ATF, Chrysler doesn't...go figure...

How much of the Mobil 1 Syn ATF should I buy? Can I get it at any auto parts store? What type does chrysler recommend? Why do u fell the mobil 1 is better? Thanks for your time.

Buy 10 quarts...you will only need about 6 or 7 but since it is the first time, you will spill at least 2 or 3 quarts. Until you learn it is a messy job. You can get the Mobil 1 Syn ATF anywhere they sell Mobil 1 Syn oil.

When you drain your transmission you will see what comes out...it looks like sewer sludge, grayish green...gear oil. I trust the manufacturer of the transmission more than the manufacturer of the truck.

I thought that was recommended, too. I just used what was on the oil cap. I bought 8 qt. for 51.00.

Yeah, that is the rec oil for an 05. But Prof is saying that u can use a diff viscosity with out damage esp since we change oil every 3 mths. 04's have a diff rec oil viscosity.

it depends on where you tlive (weather) and how you drive. I run 15-50...

Search for "oil" and read-on!

I have a bunch of 1 qt bottles of Amsoil synt, i believe 10w40, I used in my 5.9, so it looks like I could use it also in SRT-10?

3000 K is good. Ted may Showed me my oil after 2500 miles and it started to thin out:dontknow: Like patrick said check the condition of your oil periodiacally and change according to how you drive. Heat is Bad
