Well I kno im gonna drop it but the truck is not gonna be daily driven. Just in the summer to the track and taken up for challenges.. So I was thinkin about just addin a roots style blower or a paxton then do the bolt ons after that big power jump. Or just get a drop as soon as I get it because I currently have a truck thats lowered and I love it. Tottally changed how it handled and everything...
So I guess my plans for the truck are just leavin the internals stock and just addin a blower and bolt ons with a tune and leave it alone...
Leave it alone till I get set up later in life and I can throw money at it before I get a wife/kids hahahhahaha cause i kno my wife will kill me for spendin all this dime on a truck lol
So basically im asking... Whats better to do. Drop/exhaust/headers or just use that money and put it towards the blower??
If your first two sentences are truly what you plan to do...here are my suggestions:
1. Sell the truck...it will never be as fast as you want it for the track unless you are willing to invest $150 - 200k (Examples: Dom and FstJack, both have that much invested and are still not where they want to be...but both are very close.)
2. If you are going to race the SRT 10, begin by forging the engine...tear it down, forged rods, forged pistons, billet mains, complete valve train replacement.
3. Go with a power adder, (Roe, Paxton, Procharger) and consider NOS/Water Meth/Intercooler (Paxton comes with the intercooler).
4. Start working on traction immediately. You will probably need a 4-Link and you will spend as much on traction and suspension as you do on engine modifications.
5. Strip all comfort items...air conditioning, power steering, cruise control, heater, glass, fuel tank (and fuel pump), fender liners, seats, radio/stereo/navigation, carpet etc. Replace every part that has to be replaced with light weight components.
Now you are about ready to go racing...except that you will have to get licensed, have a roll cage built and don't forget the parachute...and you still may not be in the low 10's. That might take another $50k or so.
Now if that is a little too much...reconsider your goals...maybe you want a quick street machine that you drive on nice days, and take to the strip from time to time.
If you want it to be the machine I described above...you might want to save $30 to 50k before you start. And if you plan to put off the forging of the engine add $20k to the amount you will need because you will dust the engine once or twice in route with a Forced Injection approach. One of those times you will add a window to your block and those learning experiences will cost you the extra $20k.
Here is my practical recommendation:
1. Forge the engine.
2. Select the power adder that you want (Roe for my street truck).
3. Find a way to cool the air as it enters the intake (water/meth, NOS or intercooler). And get the air out with long tube headers, and cat delete.
4. Add a Locker Rear End, with stronger axles and smaller rear caliper so you can use 15 or 16 inch slicks when you want to. Do a drive line loop while you are at it.
5. Find a great tuner (Roe Racing, or DC Performance are my recommendations), and listen to them and don't let anyone else touch your tuning.
6. Plan for everything to go wrong, plan to spend twice what you thought, but drive it like you stole it!
Or...
You can listen to Viper Jeff.
