My recall nightmare

In my earlier thread the dealer replaced my passenger air bag and screwed the dash up. I took the truck back and they said the door on the air conditioner vent broke and they did not do it. They want $550 to fix it. Mechanic said he was no where near the part. I find it hard to believe that it was fine before I took it to them and now it screwed up. Where is this a/c door in relation to the passenger air bag?

:D:DIt is a common failure part on our trucks so if they didn't break it then it would just be a matter of time before it broke. My advise would be to get in the truck, start it up, rev it up and then burn a little rubber to get rid of the frustration and be glad you own one of the baddest trucks around that just happens to have an AC blend door problem.:D

I'll second the blend door issue. My truck before my SRT-10 was an 04 Ram also. Common Ram problem. I was quoted over 2 grand in labor to replace a $20 part. The whole dash has to come loose and slide back. My son and I did it ourselves in about 6 hours. I hope I never have to do another one.

For 2 G's, I'll do it myself. For 500, I'd think about letting them do it. It was a big job.

very common to break. they are correct they are no where near that part when doing that recall.

They may have not been near the area, but if it worked fine prior, they broke it!
They're made from some crap material very similar to clay! When broken, you can literally remove fan, reach in ductwork, and with one hand, crumble the broken door into smaller pieces so it all can be removed. It literally falls into pieces :(
Good news is for $0 and about 15 minutes you can fix it yourself. Been without recirc door for around 60k miles with no repercussions. Hard blowing, quiet operating air again :)

You can certainly do this, however it is not fixing the problem. You are eliminating the "Max A/C" setting by having the door removed.
Kind of like cutting off an arm instead of setting the broken bone.

Finally got my truck back, $640 but it works?

Should probably get a VALET tune for the moments you need to take it for service. Record the mileage as well. They probably noticed the blend door issue from their TESTDRIVE, after installing the airbag. (Airbag install shouldn't need a test drive but ,HEY, it has a viper engine. Lets see what it can do!) :D

That is the exact reason that mine is not going in for the recall. So some asshole can beat the balls of my truck and then hand the keys back to me.

You must have been screwed over really bad by a dealership at one time, but that doesn't mean every single dealership is the way you were treated.

I'll put it this way, the majority of our techs own cars that are more fun to take out and beat on then our trucks. You act like this is the nicest vehicle they will see and have no self control, so they must take it out and pound on it. That is not the case, not even a little bit. If you think this is the case, wait with the vehicle while the recall is being performed. Watch over them and make sure they don't take it for a ride, you'll probably be surprised at the level of professionalism you will see.

Andy's place always takes care of my 10. No valet tune needed.
One thing I learned as a tech. It's a major responsibility to work on/drive any high performance vehicle.

I beg to differ.
Having been in the business of hauling new vehicles into dealerships both as a Driver and a Terminal Manager for more years than I care to remember. I have seen on quite a few occasions where my company has delivered a high performance vehicle to a dealership. And then have said dealership try to file a transport claim on damage done by dealer personnel hot rodding the vehicle. I wish I still had the photos. I vividly remember a Mustang GT that came thru Roush Racing and was built for the Bondurant School in Chandler. The car was the real deal. Race engine, fuel cell, roll cage etc. It was delivering thru a Ford Dealer also in Chandler. It needed and engine and a set of tires when they got done beating the crap out of it at the dealer. And they tried to file a transport claim to boot.

And I have yet to see a good dealer tech drive a nice car. They all seem to drive a Hooptie. :D

The real surprising thing is how some of the parts changers get Chrysler certified....

What most people don't understand is you have to shop for a repair facility like looking for a doctor. Don't wait until your ready for a dirt nap then go to the first guy that answers the phone.

I've seen a Shelby mustang and a Ferrari TOTALED on the dealer property, never got to the street thankfully. Z01 corvette TOTALED by valet on casino property. just like cops and truck drivers, some good, some bad.

Hold on, I'll post pictures of the cruise I went on just this weekend with a few of the guys I work with. Just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

You are welcome to have a differing opinion to mine, but I've been closer to the dealership end of the business than being a transport driver and either I've had good luck with quality techs or you have seen far worse techs in your area than we are accustomed to here. I'm used to seeing dealership hate on every forum I'm a member of, and here is no different.

The media has helped paint a picture of dealerships that lie, cheat and steal and the stereotype has definitely taken hold. The only thing I can do is continue to provide the quality service that I currently do.

Without knowing me you have no way of questioning my experience. I was a transport driver and then spent over 25 years as a manager of a transport company including investigation of claims. I've seen it all. Bridge hits, driven off the headrack, etc, etc.
Dealerships generate their own hate. I know the underhanded stuff they try to pull. Are they all dishonest? Of course not. But it's not fantasy land either. I know what goes on. Therefore my truck is not going in for the recall.

I think it all depends on the dealership. I've heard countless stories about Viper owners taking their car in for service and then getting into a huge legal battle because the car was wrecked/destroyed during a "test drive."
