My Reef Aquarium Hobby..

If you do...Start with all used stuff...That was my mistake..I started with all new and my little tank setup cost me three times what the big one did...

It's gonna be awhile.........

I'll be rebuilding for some time unless a miracle occurs... ie: Pharoah's army drowning in ankle deep water. Excuse the ecclesiastical humor.

The KISS method is always the best way to go. Hearing your experience has made me think about setting up a small marine tank. I have always loved salt tanks but am a fresh water guy. I'll make sure I read your posts again... I think I can get a nice 20 gallon long up and running. What salt do you use??

Reef crystals..Only downside that I experience with it is a sharp drop on PH and alkalinity...Which I stabilize by using a buffer. I rarely have to add salt...I keep it at 1.023 to minimize salt creep...Most Nano Reefers keep at 1.025-1.026...

You can find better salt mixtures, but being that I don't do water changes to replenish the minerals, I don't care what salt I use. I am still using the same bag that I started with 2 years ago...:)

Reef crystals is pretty good from the minimal research I did. I still have a five gallon bucket of it downstairs... I will toss it when i start up again. You have gotten me back on the salt bangwagon again....

I'm sure the wife will curse you since I will test the water everyday, and will obsesses about anything that is out of the norm.....

Haha...Just start small and look around for a Reef Club around you...You will find the stuff a lot cheaper and this might make it more palatable to the wife..The first couple of months I would test once a week and don't add anything to it..Just the live rock that you should do your best to buy cured already to shorten the cycle..

Here are some more pics...I don't own a Macro lense so bare with me..
