Hi guys,

Just posting to say hi and "introduce" my daily driver, my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland stealth project. V2 or version 2 I call it (lol) as I had my old XJ which was version 1. I'm real happy with the way it's turning out. A few mods to come but well on the way. My SRT10 NR RC is still in LA, I purchased it around, 8-10 weeks ago? but some pricks have been bringing guns back to NZ & Aussie in the trunks of imported cars so there's now a huge delay after searching every container. So, my baby waits in it's container, then there's RHD conversion on top of that!? (5-6 weeks). Anyhow, I'll get it for the first time around Feb and this Jeep has kept me occupied for the last few weeks. :)

Modifications:

3" IRO (Iron Off Road) Lift Kit w/Bilstein Shocks
Heavy Duty Front & Rear Addco Sway Bars
Black 16x8" Cragar 397 Soft 8 Series Wheels (5" BS)
265/75R16 (32x10.5") BFGoodrich A/T Tyres
5% Window Tints Rear & 35% Front Windows
Grille, Lower Fascia & Side Molding Painted Satin Black
Black Headlight Covers, Taillight Guards & Window Monsoons
All Badges & Emblems Removed With Heat Gun
Rock rails, Towbar & mudflaps removed (Jeep rubber tow hitch cover)
Calvary Charger Airhorn
Valentine 1 Radar Detector

To come:

Kolak 3" Exhaust with Hi-Flow Cats & Flowmaster Super 40 Mufflers
Chrome Magnaflow Exhaust Tips
K&N Filtercharger Injection Performance Kit (FIPK)
TransGo Performance Shift Kit (Firmest Available - L2)
Westin Sportsman Powdercoated Front Grille Guard
Wesitin Rear Taillight Guards
VHT Nite Shade Spray Blackout rear lights
3 x Hella Black Magic Spot Lights For Grille Guard

YES, THEY'RE ALL POSER SHOTS. LOL
It's my daily driving & fishing vehicle (LBG Shark) :D

Cheers,
Carl

Nice photos. Great looking Jeeps.

Has anyone done anything to tow with a Jeep SRT 8?

With the exhaust set up how do you attach a tow bar?

Thanks mate. :) Ummm, not sure on the SRT8 version. Nice rides that move those SRT8s but too nice to use as a daily driver and hoon down the beach, definitely a suburban runner. As for the exhaust, it's made by a guy called Nick Kolak who is well known in Jeep circles for his knowledge makes the exhaust. It's a direct bolt in, no mods as it follows and uses the factory hangers and goes in the same location.

Nice looking rig!!!

I am not sure if towing with a JGC-SRT is recommended, but I am sure that a tow hitch could be made that would loop around the exhaust. Of course, that would limit the weight that it could tow, but I am sure that Jeep wouldn't want to tow much anyway.

Thanks! ;)

Just incase as I'm not sure but this isn't an SRT version or even in the same model (WK). Mine's a WJ and the last of them (04) before they went to the new models. I also agree that towing with them wouldn't be recommended. The 300c SRT8 doesn't recommend it, same engine and trans? too. :)

I like it nothing looks tougher than a all black vehicle. But we wont talk about the cleaning process.

To be honest, I'm kind of a mongrel with my Jeeps (Daily drivers). I only cleaned my XJ once in the 2 years I owned it lol. I clean my other cars, my "classics" for up to 4 hours a vehicle. I will clean this Jeep more as it's more modern and "worth" cleaning, if that makes sense. But, more often than not it'll just get the odd spray down, no suds. :D

Man that looks great.... I've always liked WJ's. Did you paint all the silver trim black, or did you remove it somehow

Thanks! I painted the grille, lower fascia and body side molding Satin Black. Around 4 coats per item. Looks good, not glossy and gives it the stealth "Army" dull look. :)

Looks BadAzzz mate. You gotta come to the BrOnX!! Is it radar proof?

Cheers brother lol, it has a radar but not radar proof lol. :p I am looking at radar/laser blockers though, they scramble police radars but, not sure yet.

Cheers,
Carl

Not mine Prof, but another SRT-8 from the forum....

You always have this option....

Hidden hitch with a bumper plug when not towing.

whos converting your truck when it arrives? Is WSV (Waltons) still doin them in Auckland? I heard they stopped as a South African company was now suppling NZ with Right Hook cars.....

We cant have Waltons cars as they dont meet ADR's...

Nope, I'm getting mine down where the majority do, the best place - Eagle Automotive in New Plymouth. I called around and apparently there is a real dodgy crowd in Tauranga, cheap but dodgy and the warranty's are dicey to say the least. :)

Those are 2 great looking Jeeps!.. ............sorry to hear your truck is delayed..Feb??...:( ..............BTW...you can get a towing kit for the SRT8 jeeps...but it comes with turned down exhaust tips that look like poop...

Thanks TNViper. :) Yup, around Feb. Worth the wait though.......

Dont feel too bad about the wait - it took 17 months to get mine!! I ordered it in Dec 04, waited for the yellow fever edition, waited to get it here, waited for the conversion, waited for it to get fixed (freight damage) and drove it for the first time in April 2006.............:(

The Jeeps are very nice. What an improvement! I'm droolin' over your E Bodies!!!!! There are lots of Kiwis here in Korea teaching English.

BTW, the available tow kits for SRT8 CGs are only rated for about 2,000 lbs. And, you don't have to go with a turn down exhaust. The photo in Slow91's post is of an installed kit. You pull the plug in the bumper above the exhaust to slide the receiver in.

Yup, I'm good at the waiting game with restorations and what not lasting 3-1/2 years + lol. The last car I got ex-USA was the 'Cuda and that took around 3 weeks from wharf (LA) to pickup. Reason everything is being held back is some pricks have been shipping guns and ammo back to Aussie and NZ for gangs. So, they now have 28 containers on back log, my trucks one included.

Big Asp - Thanks mate, too kind.
