my friend owns a 98 dakota and he wants to build it. i know its not the best base to start but its what he wants and he loves it. well its got a 318 v8 auto combo now. what we're gonna do is either a 349 or 390 stroker kit. hes gonna put edelbrock heads and cam in it, and he wants to do a supercharger as well. hes gonna have tci build him a transmission for it and we're gonna have the rear built as well. hes not going cheap and he wants to see about 500 rwhp thats reliable. here's my ?'s. which stroker kit would benefit most from the 8 psi supercharger he wants? next who would be able to tune it the best? he doesnt care if he has to ship it to cali as long as they're the best. next is how do we know injector size to run? and finally is will 500 be a possibality on this setup. any help is appreciated. o and me and him will be doing all the work ourselves except the tune.

tia, stan

I would think your best bet would be to hit-up the Dodge/Dakota Forums and start reading up.:D

weeellll i would always say go with more cubes:rock:

no replacement for displacement:D

do a low compression build so you can build great boost, but not sure about a tuner bro, I would address it when the time comes:D

get ya tranny built, I think DTS has built a rear axle deal for the dakotas so may be able to help ya out there.

let me think n it a lil and maybe come up with sum mo:D

thanks stink. how low on the comp? 9-1? 8.5-1? what would you consider high boost?

already talked to tci and they're gonna build his trans to hold up to 700 hp.

as far as the rear, we're gonna build it ourselves. axles, bearings, ring n pinion, detroit locker and a rear disc setup.

i mean he wants all out. hes looking to spend about 30k total for the build.

Get ahold of Dick Landy Industries (D.L.I.)
DLI is closed for business.
Mopar makes a 406 Crate Motor that accepts fuel injection cranking out 435HP.

k thanks stink. as far as the engine goes, he wants to keep the base 318 block. dunno why but he does. i tried to convince him to do a viper swap but he wants what hes got. he also wants to do as much as he can himself. he wants to be able to have the gratifacation of having a nice truck that he made himself. im going to overwatch everything he does to insure its done right. i told him id talk to you guys and se what everyone says to go for with compression and boost numbers. after what ive heard so far hes gonna get the 390 stroker kit with 8.5-1 compression. do youi guys think he should get total seal rings or conventional style?

keep conventional style rings, less problems and keeps the cost down:D

I've been trying to remember where I had the calculator for the injectors, cant find it, try pming fstjack, he should have it

oh and contact whom ever cam you want and tell them specifically what you want and let them cut ya one, you'll be much better off:D

i've always liked lunati cams, so ill contac them. and ill pm fstjack whem we're ready for the injectors. thanks stinker

I believe the Edelbrock head have the old bolt pattern, if he is going to use the Magnum style intake I don't think they are compatable. He can use the Mopar performance Magnum R/T heads that are made for the 2.02 intake valves. These heads flow real close to the Eddys. I did a 5.9 build with these heads and a paxton SC that made 500 HP at the crank.

Also don't confuse the Mopar performance R/T heads with the heads that came stock on the Dakota R/T, they are NOT the same.

Bill.

edelbrock does make the heads for the newer magnum engines. i made sure of this before just about everything else. performer RPM magnum head. 2.02 intake and 1.60 exhaust valves,176cc intake and 75cc echaust ports 1992 and later 5.2-5.9. jegs has them bolt-on for $719 each. been doin some research on this build. thanks for everyones input and if someone sees something i forgot, please speak up.
