Can the flywheel on our trucks be resurfaced? Most everyone is changing to Aluminum Fidenza and I really don't want to, I like the way my truck pulls at low RPM's also don't want to spend the extra 500.00.
One of the members was on yesterday talking about having to replace his stock flywheel because it had hot-spotted, resurfacing will normally take care of this problem right?
My plan is to use the centerforce clutch parts and replace the plastic slave cylinder with the viper parts.
My truck is a 05 R/C with 26000 miles on original clutch, which I am expecting problems from very soon.

Answer is NO!!! Just spoke to Tator Dodge in Salem NY about that exact thing. Can go with the Fidanza but he says he is not comfortable with aluminum. There is no scatter shield for these trucks or the viper and he just replaced 38k of a viper due to the Fidanza tearing through the firewall floor and almost a guys foot.

He just mentioned that Mopar perfomance is either putting out a lightweight steel or titanium flywheel. The OEM flywheel is about $120.

Also.. He said he is not aware of a change in the master and slave between the truck and cars. He would like to know the part number since he does a ton of these and never heard of a metal one.

Mopar has a lightwheel alloy steel flywheel available now... retails for 929.00
TheMoparConnection price 849.00 plus shipping.

as far as resurfacing:
The flywheel should be replaced if warped or overheated. Do not machine the face of the flywheel to correct a warped or overheated condition

Looks like you are going to get different opinions on this.:D

The OEM flywheel CAN be resurfaced if it is not warped or damaged. Mine will be resurfaced by PBJ when I put the Centerforce clutch in a few weeks from now. Joe told me it wouldn't hurt a thing and he does it all the time with no problems. ;)

Hey.. You have the link to the new flywheel from an online cat? And do you know if its true about the viper master being the same?

According to the SM it says no, not to resurface. Did I resurface mine? Yup, did Vprpwr resurface his? Yup, did Shudog do his too? Yup...

Which most of us have gone to the drag strip tons of times with slicks and its been good for a long time.

Many have resurfaced flywheels, and its been done for years.

If you want to get a NEW one, then there pretty inexpensive, but for 30.00 for a resurface, its you call.

My 2 worthess pennies :)

Jack, might be the perfect time to go to the fidanza, centerforce, viper slave/master cyl...

As far as resurfacing, I just got off the phone with the owner of Tator and he told me they are not to be resurfaced. People are flocking to his dealership due to his work. At $120 for a new OEM, why would you bother?

This is the same dealership that told you this earlier.......

Sounds like he is all over the truck info, huh?:dontknow:

Yup, same dealership. Says he is shipping out replacements all the time. He was clear that he did not know of a difference. In fact, last Sunday I looked at mine and Dominicks (who did the change) and did not notice a difference.

Also, he said if there was a difference, he would have to check the part numbers.

i think the flywheel change to an aluminum is a personal choice -- not necessary.... however, the cf clutch & viper master/slaves are a requirement !! i bought my complete kit with flywheel from roe for $1500.00.... you can get it minus the flywheel for $1000.00...... comes with instructions & guys here can post some pics if it will help you...... install @ a dealership will be ~$450.00.....
i recently did mine & love it...... i also have no chatter at all...... this, along with a shifter upgrade is a must for any rc guy......:D
