Need Glass Cleaning Advice -- Claybar?

I bought my 2005 SRT10 QC New November 2006 but it had set on a lot 1+ years and has water spots on the windows I can't get off. I've tried Windex, Invisible Glass, vinegar, CLR, and acetone. Nothing's helped yet. Next move was to try claying them.

Suggestions?

Yep that works. I had some over spray on my windshield on my car along with the water spots and the clay bar method took it off. Good luck.

Try a good new razor blade also!! Change it out often

Grade #0000 steel wool and Stoner's Invisible Glass. Then follow up with black and white newspaper and more Stoner's. (all in the shade of coarse) :rock:

Lacquer thinner, little more harsh that acetone but will not harm glass. Just do not pour it on the glass, it will run somewhere that it will harm parts IE the black plastic cowl.

There is a product made specifically for this called A-maz, it is like a polishing compound but made for glass and ceramic tile and it works great. Call and auto glass retailer and tell him Pilkington carries it.

I use a-maz also. (amaze) it took 10 years of shit off my windshield of my 91 impulse RS. I was going to replace after the a-maz it's like brand new. same for the side view mirrors that were useless.

Might sound weird,,, but I have a "windshield replacement" option on my car insurance. Costs me $30 a year per car. Allows up to 2 replacements a year. I get a brand new windshield every year whether its cracked or not.

Might sound weird,,, but I have a "windshield replacement" option on my car insurance. Costs me $30 a year per car. Allows up to 2 replacements a year. I get a brand new windshield every year whether its cracked or not.

Now I understand. I don't have that option, and have my deductable at $500to get my rate low. Best I can tell the cleaner will get my glass looking new, I've spent less than $40 including holder/pads/cleaner/hipping, and will probably have to invest about an hour of elbow grease.

How about old Plastic Headlights? Anybody know a cheap way to de-haze them?

No Tim it won't. There is only one was to get rid of them and that is a new windshield.
The pits are caused by sand and dirt particles hitting the glass as you go down the road, you would have to grind down the surface of the glass to get rid of them. Unfortunatly this would distort the glass far too much to drive with.
When and if you do get a new windshield make sure you watch them do the job. Don't let them use a chinese windshield (all new windshields should have a sticker on them stating place of manufacture), also make sure they use quality urethane like Essex or Sika.
But the most important part is that the windshield is glued in as part of the structural strength of the roof, when they cut out the old windshield they will probably put some small scratches on the pinchweld metal, make very sure they primer over those scratches with a primer of the same brand as the urethane they are using, or 2 years down the road you will have a rust problem.

Good advice Bill!

I just had the windshield replaced in my Mom's Buick, and I am glad that I watched the guy do it! The first try he broke the glass! But he did scratch the paint under the seal getting off the old stuff, and I watched him put primer on it to cover all of the places he scratched.

Also, pay close attention to the mess they make, because they likely will not!
