Not sure what the fuck you mean with that reply Mike.:dontknow:

Meaning ...I agree with you that there seem to be ZERO options with the C-clips....but if you are going to put an entire new rear end and axles in....skip the Locker and put in a quaife like the viper and Ford guys....

Stinker I have had 3 of my vehicles done by them in the last year. Let me know how I can help.

Bill.

I know its a long shot, but I have seen dts do alot of great things, and bills had all his work done there, maybe they can break the barrier if not, new axle comming, gotta have something.

Hey guys. I just received my extra rearend tonight. Stupid bastards didn't secure the shocks so I am left with two half-shocks. The unbolted ends must've been kickin around the back of 'ol billy-bob's semi trailer on the way from Massachusetts. Never made it here with the rear. Anyway, the rear should be installed tomorrow and I will have the old rear available to work on a new brake set-up that allows mounting 15 or 16 inch rims. I'll keep in touch when I get any news.

Greg

Detroit makes lockers for c-clip axles, they should be able to make one for our Dodge....I've seen them in Dana 35's and 8.8's....

I have a buddy who works for a shop in Weatherford....they do big bearing 9's with 35 spline axles for off-road vehicles....these guys run LS1's in jeeps with 42 inch tires without breaking axles....would think this might be an option as well Stinker, I think they are at sunrayengineering.com if you want to check the axles out.....

the detroit locker is a no go,, the guy did contact eaton while I was on the phone with him, and they may consider making one but may be awhile.
he did say he could convert our rear ends to accept a locker by changing the bearings and so on for aroun $2000 and possibly do a complet new axle with smaller brakes your choice for around $3000 they are at DTS drivetrain spcialist.

That's not good enough Mister.....keep going....

please excuse my ignorance....how would a detroit locker be better than what we have now? I mean we lay down double burnout patches right? you'd think I'd know this being from Michigan!

Sometimes it will unload, make a loud bang, and cause you to immediately switch lanes.....also, it pushes in the snow, sucks in the rain, and every now and then bolts choose to work their way out and eat the gearset in the process....

What's not to like :D

I've always liked detroits because they are a strong, quality product, and if maintained, they never wear out....at least the softlocker, I'm not a big fan of their limited slips....

Okay gentlemen, here is what I found out. Without actually having a housing in hand to look at he estimated $2000.00 plus tax. Bill estimated a little on the high side so that he would be covered if he ran into any unforeseen issues.

Now for what you get for your money.
New 35 spline axles and bearings.
New backing plates, rotors, calipers and brake hoses.
New Detroit Locker.
New ends welded on the housing to accept the new backing plates/bearings.
Assembly of the new components.

The backing plates are from a Ford, as the HEMI rearend is also a C-Clip rearend and the backing plates/rotors/etc. would not solve the problem. The rotors are 11.25 diameter. These would be a little on the small side for the weight of our trucks, but the option would exist to upgrade to aftermarket brake parts.

You would ship him a housing with only the pinion and yoke in place, along with the ring gear. The housing would have to be steam cleaned prior to shipment.

Here is Bill's website with address and phone number. I have known Bill for a number of years now, and his work is absolutely miticulous. You will not be disappointed in his craftsmanship or quality.

He knows me as John, not Silverback. Remember that if you call him.

Damn, almost forgot something. He would need the measurement from left to right axle flange. He would maintain this dimension unless you specified differently.
