My son really fell in love with the piano and begged me to teach him how to play the Piano. I enrolled Spencer in Piano lessons since I don't know how to play any musical instrument. Spencer is doing great for a beginner. The piano teacher suggested I get him a piano or an electric keyboard to practice on at home for at least 1 hour a day. I have a friend who traded me his Studio Logic SL990 Pro keyboard for a 16 track digital mixer that I used for live production work.
I am a complete beginner to musical interfaces like the Midi keyboard and how to make it work thru the computer. I have to be able to use this keyboard as a piano for Spencer but for me, I also want to be able to use it for sound effects and composing music scores to video.This is what I have to work with so far:
1. Studio Logic SL990 Pro Midi keyboard with midi out only and 1 "sustain" phono plug port. This keyboard does not have any stored sounds at all. It is strickly a controller keyboard.
2. Midi Sport Uno 1in 1out Midi to USB interface. This allows me to connect the Midi Keyboard to my computer via USB.
3. Self built PC running Vista with 4 gigs ram. 1TB of hard drive space. 512MB PCI express video card. Onboard mobo sound.
4. Adobe Audition 1.5 sound editing software.
5. Acid Pro 4.0 sound editing software.
6. Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0
So here is where I am at.
I have the Midi keyboard hooked up to the computer. The Midi driver of the USB to Midi interface is installed. The computer's sound card is hooked up to an amp that has 2 speakers. The sound is working from the computer but how do I get the keyboard to play? I know I will need some other software or hardware but that Is what I am asking.
What suggestions do you have to complete the system?
