Thanks again everyone. It's been a difficult 24 hours. From the call from my wife saying she thinks he had passed to rushing back over there at midnight and then assisting the funeral home to take him away at 2:00AM. My MIL and wife are holding up well. They are relieved that he is no longer suffering. Out of town family and neighbors came to their house to express their condolences and bring food. Tomorrow will be a repeat of today and the service is Monday.
This opens up a new chapter since my 86 year old MIL is now alone after 60+ years of marriage and her kids don't see her living by herself. She has the beginnings of dementia and has to use a walker to get around. They are going to have to have a family meeting to discuss solutions. Fortunately one of the daughters lives nearby but all the responsibility can't be dumped on her.
