So lets say hypothetically that someone usually puts the truck in tow/haul mode when racing or overtaking, and when the truck gets on the top end (100+) they take it out of tow/haul mode for the direct overdrive. Now what if he was going to overtake a bunch of slow cars, and thought he put it in tow/haul mode before he sarted to overtake, but didn't. Then when he got up to 110 he figured he'd take it out of tow/haul mode but instead accidentally put it in tow/haul mode going 110.

Besides damage to the tranny, is there any possible damage the motor might suffer?

I figure the crank and bearings, but what else could have been damaged?

Is the stock Viper crank forged, should the motor be all G?

I figure that the torque converter should let the clutches slip since one is goin going too fast and one is going too slow, but I'm not sure.

Lets say hypothetically the truck still chirps the tires on the 1st-2nd gear shift, but slips on the kickdown gear on WOT. What should he be asking the dealership to check for damage; vavle body, bands, torque converter?

Now lets say hypothetically that this dumbass doesn't mind the damage to the tranny as long as the motor is undamaged. Should he be taking it to a dyno to see if his motor is running 100%, and what RWHP RWTQ should it be putting down?

Thanks a bunch guys, oh yeah the hypothetical dumbass says thanks too.

Think it would depend on the number of rpm's your "friend" was turning. Although, the rev limiter should have worked, ultimatley protecting the engine. You have to remember, the six speed guys sometimes have a tendancy to go into first while attempting to hit third, and that is probably at 70mph+. In this case, the tach is most definitely going crazy.

Who is this guy anyway? Is he a member?:D

Don't be silly. No one from this site would even consider doing something like that!:D

I think your engine and tranny are fine. I have trapped over 110 in T/H at the track. As far as slipping on the kick-down I would need some more info (Speed, gear, etc). Sounds like you might need your bands adjusted. Either way I don't think there is any real damage. How many miles on the truck?

I'm surprised the electronics would let it happen. Generally the transmission will not down shift by moving the lever or pushing the button if the engine will exceed the redline.

RC guy's do not have that safety device on theirs.

you didn't hurt anything....as John said....I run my tow/haul to 130....the rev limiter will save your friend....:D

i say in or out. but im an rc guy. i know i dont want to worry about messing with buttons at 100+ just hoping that i will go faster or slower.

Tow haul at 130Mph:afraid: How. Mine tops out at 110ish:dontknow:

Before the turbo mine was 120 with the stage 2.
Hey Flying low Do you think mine is at 120 redline also with my aggresive stage 2 flash:dontknow: I have gone past 120 but not in tow haul

I don't think it is a speed issue. It is RPM. Only one way to find out. Keep it in tow/haul mode and see when you hit the rev limiter. You should be good past 110.

Correct....4.56s with stock tires at 6000 rpm = 123+ mph...

"my friend" also has been 120 in tow/haul with no problems but that f*cker is crazy

Same with my "friend", even took a pic with his camera phone! he's a real dumbass!:burnout:

Thanks for the replies guys, I would think that there is some kind of safety device that should prevent it from any serious damage.

I just can't stop thinking that putting it in tow/haul mode at 110 going WOT can't be good at all, and something is probably damaged, hopefully not the engine. Would really suck to damage the engine of your dream truck over an honest mistake of forgetfullness.

in my experience....when you down shift too aggressively...if the rev limiter allows it...it will be the back tires that will break loose to release the energy....not the motor or drivetrain...in a viper you can do this daily....:D
