I just found out that my best friend was seriously injured in a sky diving accident on Friday. Paul is one of the Flying Elvi, a group of jumpers that dress up in Elvis suits and do promotional jumps. He was in Montana doing a jump for the opening of a new Indian casino. He tried to make a cut and swoop from about 50-60 feet and came in very hard. I spoke with the EMT who was on the scene of the crash. He shattered his pelvis, ripped one of the main arteries in his leg and did a lot of internal damage. His kidneys have failed and they have him cut open from his belly button all the way up to relieve pressure on his organs as they have all swelled. He has not been concious since the accident. They flew him to a trauma ward in Seattle, though I am not sure which hospital he is at. Please keep him in your thoughts, this is the same guy that lost his OL in a car accident this past spring.

Wow Bob that is tragic. Thoughts and prayers to him and his family and friends.

Sorry to hear that Bob, I thought I was having a bad year, but this guy's luck makes me realize things could be worse.

Bill.

Sorry about that Bob. My hopes and prayers for a good recovery are with you...

Damn, not good. Hope he recovers and all is fine.

Since I'm in the Seattle area let me know if there is anything I can do for you.

I talked to his son, who is now up there with him. They removed part of his intestines today, and they hope to be able to close him up on Wednesday. They are worried about infection of course, but are more worried about closing him up. They have him heavily sedated and are hoping that he improves enough this week that they can allow him to wake up this weekend, which would be great as his son wants to be there for that, and needs to get back to school soon. They are not sure about any brain damage, but they think it is more likely that he doesn't have any. I guess there are also some problems with the artery in his leg, it is beyond repair, so there is some concern about the leg getting enough blood. All in all, he is doing much better than when they first brought him in, but he is still in some real bad shape. When it is all said and done he will probably be lucky to work again, he is a framer and they said his pelvis will probably bother him for the rest of his life. They aren't letting him breath on his own either, as they are worried this could cause more harm, I'm not exactly sure how or why.

I might try to get up there to visit him next week, though that depends on a lot of things.

Be sure to let me know if you make it up here. Would love to meet you if you have the time.

I sure will. It all depends on how he is doing, how long they expect to keep him there, and of course how much the airlines want to rape me for.

Hey Mikey, thanks for the offer. Not sure if I will be heading up that way or not. I am off to RI again tomorrow morning, so it sure won't be this week. I want to wait until he is awake anyway to tell the truth. Don't think it would do him much good to have me sitting there the way he is. Just checked on some flights, damn near $500 to get to Seattle and back. I heard that the flight getting there is only $25, they just rape you leaving cause they know you will gladly pay to get out of there LOL. Sort of like the toll bridges leaving Jersey hehehehe.

I have faith in this guy though. This isn't his first brush with death, in fact he was pronounced one time about 20 years ago. He wrecked his car on that one, and had the steering column come up through his throat. So he has a "distinctive" voice hehehehe. Worst part about that one was that while he was sitting there pinned up against the seat, the car burst into flames and torched his arm up but good. His hand is all f'ed up from it, sort of like a claw or something. But man, you have to hear him tell that story, he will have you rolling LOL. If nothing else he is a tough MF'er.

The press is reporting all kinds of wrong info, and on top of that many of them are making Elvis the pelvis jokes, and jokes about the Elvis wig he was wearing. Truth is, he is still unconcious and still in a real fight. They closed him up yesterday, but had to tie off the artery in his leg, they couldn't stop the bleeding in any other way. He is not out of the woods yet, though he is definitly improving. I am so pissed at the media right now, and have a call in to the AP, they should be calling me back soon. I think it is unconscionable to make jokes while someone lies in and ICU unit fighting for his life.
