Ok so I have spent hours upon hours trying to search and find all the information I am looking for, and its hit and miss. So I have a few questions:
1. Should I buy a K&N Drop in filter over a cai? Whats better for out trucks?
2. Do I need to spend 5-1000 on a cat back exhaust? On my old truck (V6 Tacoma) I took it to a place called eastside mufflers who made a custom cat back exhaust to my specifications (2 1/2" for the V6) and put on a flowmaster 40 series and an exhaust tip all for 200. They have alot of mufflers to choose from, and different piping sizes. I would want to keep the same exhaust tips. Do I need to buy a whole cat back unit or could I go to somewhere like eastside mufflers?
3. Whats the benefit of buying long tube headers over regular headers?
4. What tune/chip/flash is the best for our trucks. I live near LA and I see that DC is there so is that the best?

Thanks and i appreciate all the help!:marchmellow: :marchmellow: :marchmellow: :marchmellow:

on the exhaust save your self some money have some one make you catless mid's and an exhaust system to your specs... it's what i did and i'v spent half of what a cat back costs... a K&N drop in is as good as a CIA on our truck....long tubes make more power

Define better... More hp? a K&N drop in filter is going to give you the same hp as a Cai. Now the Cai will sound and look ten times better...

Depends on what you want your truck to sound like, magnflows are cheap and sound ok, borla sound more exotic, B&B make it sound like a v-8, but each comes at it own price... Hp wise they are all close... I would rather get a proven system than a one off system by a local shop, exaust done wrong you have a very fast sounding ups truck...

Do a search on youtube for exaust clips and pick theone you want...

Long tubes make a slight bit more torque and hp, is it worth the extra 1000$? not really... The key is the cats, switching to high flows will gain 10-20rwhp, which is way more than headers will give you...

Don't get an out of the box tune!!!! take you truck to be tuned once you have your mods on the truck, and yes Dc is your best bet, they are also supporting vendors of the forum...

not better....about equal as far as hp #s'. but for bling factor you can choose between JMB,volant,k&n and MOPAR.

my goal is to get close to 500rwhp. Is this possible with the mod list I provided? and as ive stated in a previous thread, I have 54000 miles...

1. HP wise the drop in is about the same as a CAI. The CAI is just for bling factor.
2. I've done the Magnaflow and didn't like the in cab resonance I had. Exhaust note was great but the resonance gave me a headache. Went back to stock exhaust with rear cat delete. You can go completely catless but then you need to worry about the O2 sensors. The rear cats are not monitored so you don't need to do anything with the O2's.
3. I don't have any personal experience with our headers but from what I've read it's mostly bling.
4. A flash will remove the torque management from your auto tranny which makes a big seat of the pants difference. I don't know if the SCT tuner does this (I think it must) but someone who is familiar with them can chime in.

Not with the auto tranny, you will be close though...

here are some nubers off the dyno forum

05 QC - Stage 2 flash/K&N CAI/Borla sans rear cats 438 RWHP / 500 TRQ

05 QC - 432 RWHP,484 TQ , Dynojet 2300' above sea level, CAI,Catless mids and SCT tuned by Marty KRC Performance

1, contact Justin at JMB performance and get a CAI from him, none of them add any hp over any other, and honestly his looks the absolute best.
2. a cat back can be had from $400-+$, jsut depends on what you want and the sound.
3. contrary to belief, the llong tubes make tons more power than others, with the exception of bissani's which make really good power,(actually there is a member that has bissani's and cat less mids for sale)
4. contact B @ G chrysler, they do the absolute best tunes as far as a flash that you can get, and tons quicker than anyone else with great customer service.
if you plan on going more than jsut headers and so forth, contact Roe racing, and get an SCT, there tuning is by far the safest and you cant ask for better customer service

removing the Cats is actually the best mod, next to a flash on a QC, those two items will give you the best hp for the buck.

doing long tubes, flash, cai, and catback should net you around 470 or so hp.

gettting to 500rwhp is gonna take a few more $

this is what i would do
K&N drop in - B&G stage II - catless mids...if that isnt enough
100 shot NOS

DC flash, best bang for the buck. I use the Mopar CAI, as well as tried the K&N. The drop in gets the same results. The key I would think ...and there are guy's on here that know better than I. More air in....requires more air out. I use Long tubes, cat deletes and magnaflow plus sims........could not be happier with the sound. There is a thread from last week...something about video from wazzsup....I listed all the vid's I have done, one of them is a drive around....kind of will give you an idea of what you can expect noise wise. Without NOS with all my MODs I am at 470HP/529 trq. But every truck starts out different. Good luck and enjoy

...damn stinker you nailed my HP with the mod's I have.....you talking to my wife on the side.
;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) :p

we had the same mods on our QC, and made 472rwhp, with long tubes, no cats, cat back and volant

If you take a look at my sig, I have pretty much the mods you are looking for on a RC, and I make 475 at the wheels. Your looking more at about 450 with the quad cab IMO.

Only 450 with all those mods? How many wheel hp stock does the qc have

Read a LOT of threads and then pick something that you like

Some prefer DC Performance and some prefer B&G for tunes
and some prefer Sean Roe

Some go totally catless, some just remove two, some buy high flows, and some leave them in

Some keep the stock muffler (a small, elite group:D ) and some get a catback system

some get a CAI and some get a drop-in

Headers ,what a can of worms that subject is
BUT,long tubes make more power slightly higher up the power band
shorties make a little further down, maybe a bit more torque .Depends on who you ask

Main thing is to plan what your end goal is and work toward it,then you don't have to buy things twice

The stage 2 flash is one of the best things you can do to these quad cabs. However, the flash removes the torque management on the transmission which I've heard can very well shorten the life of the transmission. You said you have 54,000 miles on your truck; are you still under warranty? Its a great mod to do, don't get me wrong, but it will wear the transmission faster.

I toss my favorite exhaust in looks and sound.

MBRP Monster 4" single. I love it, love the way it looks, love the way it sounds...........as close to a v8 as I've heard, very little resonation..........

I drove behind my wife and I could feel the exhaust in the next truck when she took off. It is really deep..........

I do recomend gutting the front cats and keeping the rears....... or doing catted mid pipes from justin as it resonates pretty bad without cats.

Tony sells it for 375$ I get a bunch of complaments.........

CIA get anyone you want............cheapest worked for me. The K&N sounded like it was trying to suck the glove box through the fire wall LOVED THE SOUND......... Justins is the nicest. all IMHO :)
