Cavan thanks for the info, but I was asking why does the volant take power away.I know the vents in the hood are to let heat out away for motor

Hot air robs power. The more cool air you have in the engine compartment, the more power the engine can produce. The volant blocks a hot air exit duct (the hoodscoop).

I have a Volant but I just capped the hood scoop duct (at the box) with a 3" ?? rubber stop from Lowes .

Honestly a K&N drop in makes the most power but you don't get the sound. If you must have the sound of a CAI, buy JMB's cold air intake. He can be found in our vendors' section.
