I just went to the local performance shop and got my pipes done. They removed the rear cats and the resonators, got rid of that garbage can stock muffler and put 14" magnaflow (magnapacks?) Didnt think they made them anymore. When he started it on the lift it idled up and when it settled it spit and popped, then just rumbled deep and mean. I can handle that i thought. I told him to red line it and let off and HOLY SH*t it was wild. 50 feet away was a concrete building and the garage bay resonated. Like a cannon went off our we all jumped threw our arms up before our ears popped and then rang loudly till we could make out the rumble of the idle again. I could not believe it! But a couple of 3000 rpm revs the impression was ruined!!!!

The popping sounded was awful. Vroom Pa-da-ta-POW! I cant stand it. We all looked at each other so dissapointed as it was the first exaust we heard on these vipers.

They say these mufflers will only get louder. I want the front cats gone too but I need help guys, he offered to put flowmaster outlaws on for free, and suggested an H or an X pipe. Tell me what to do. I want it so fuc*in loud you cant talk reguardless of rpm. But i dont want people on sidewalk ducking from a 9mm driveby. Im embarrassed.

Mine pops on decel and downshifts---not to loud at cruising speeds ---can at least hear myself think.....but I have no idea what type of glass pack mufflers are on mine ---they were there when I bought the truck.

The poppin is a noise you want to hear .. thats what makes it sexy.... dont be crazzy and change the set up..

Mine / our's sound just like that...probably louder with some of the set-up's were running...I as well love it.
Sorry to hear of your dissapointment...unfortunatly all you proabably wanted to do is swap out the muffler....should have kept it a bit more quiet....but got rid of the UPS truck sound.

As long as it doesn't sound like one of those fart can ricers you should be ok ---post up a recording so all of use can vote on it

Mine pops like most everyone elses here that has modified the exhaust...but unlike most everyone here I am not that fond of the backfiring when coasting down or shifting....if the popping is extreme you may have some leaks in the exhaust....

..................................NO popping!

Have your tuner take the fuel away from decel...NO more popping! :nurse:
The MagnaFlow comes with an X-Pipe in the muffler. :bebored:

Quick

I AGREE!! Nothing like shifting down gears and hitting mid to high rpm range and hearing the engine note pop and bang, I love that stuff. I often cruise around in 2nd (depending on vehicle, 3rd) and throttle up to high rpms and then let off to hear the popping. Girls do booty poppin, so do trucks lol. :D

On another note, excuse the pun, where or who make X-Pipes?
Or, are they a custom made part you have to get made yourself?

:)

Thank you Joe. I already have a complete Billy Boat system from headers to tip in boxes ready to install.
I "think" they are X-pipe. I haven't opened them up to keep them safe in storage and easier to haul around.

:)

So the general consensus is the popping will grow on me? It might could happen. I can see how a leak would do alot of it. Ill have the shop take a look at that. I think i will shy from the Flowmaster Outlaw, although they are used in promodifieds and some engines producing 2000hp or more. I may get them to tack it on and ill record a clip....

As far as performance goes, without the backpressure on a stock tune it feels like i lost ALOT down low. It feels a little sluggish till 3500-3800. I didnt get my 1/8 times yet so i dont know if it helped.
I didnt do my exhaust for the power (let the jokes fall as they may). I want to be heard. Although a group of viper lovers appreciates the pop, people that dont know, think my exhaust is crap.

i cant see how cutting the fuel and timing on decel wouldnt help. My truck is my daily driver so i cant send my computer off for any amount of time to be flashed/tuned, so is there anyone near north west florida or as we call lower alabama that can tune my stock? And if so how much? And for the crossover, magnaflow X Pipe OR flowmaster H Pipe?

I don't mind the popping...sounds fine IMO

Definitely makes people wonder what the deep popping is :D

Any air leaks in the system will cause popping be sure he welded the joints instead of clamps. The Air/Fuel ratio on decel will also cause popping.
