New Watch Time- Need Suggestions

I think Kevan left for Walmart...decided that their selection of Timex Ironman watches is really a better source for problem solution than us. They are much more technically proficient and cheaper by a long shot...in lots of ways.

As a side note, isn't it great we have Kevan to do many DIY's ?...... Talk about detailed! Holy smoke!:)

Okay...here we go.....

The Suunto's don't list specs on their site. I'm guessing from all the watch forum posts that they're all upward of the 40mm size.

You are probably correct in that assumption...

Velcro Bands? Dude....be realistic. I mean, you told me to grow up a couple of posts back. :) I don't have it on my shoes, so I'm certainly not going to have it on my watch band.

If they are good enough for SWAT, Army Rangers, and the Navy Seals.... They are good enough for YOU.

Kevan said:
The other problem with the velcro bands is that I frequently work with acetone and other solvents. Acetone + thin plastic hooks = bad.

Acetone + ANYTHING (Metal, rubber, plastic, titanium, kryptonite.... ) = BAD. Have you ever thought of taking your watch off when you work with solvents? :nurse:

Lastly, the band you posted a pic of fails:
That METAL buckle will dig into my ulna.
I never said I didn't wear velcro bands....heh heh...just that I don't anymore. :)

The metal "buckle" is a retaining strap for loose band material. (Military folks may need to adjust the band size to fit around clothing and wet suits. So, they need to keep excess material on the band to adjust the size.) You don't need this buckle, as you will (likely) not be wearing it on the outside of your coat sleeve.... and I don't think you are a Frog-man. :D So, just cut it off. :dontknow: I did this to ALL my watch straps I had (so they wouldn't catch that band on anything... You get that strap caught on the inside of a Cellulose Insulation Mixer, and you'll know what I mean. ;) :nurse: There is still an Armatron watch stuck in a wall of a house in St. Joesph, MI :D .... I wonder if the alarm still goes off at 6:30AM every morning. :p )

Good luck finding a watch, Kevan. :) :burnout:

Thanks, but you can keep it. I'd hate to take your woobie away.

This is NOTHING. You should see me when I'm house shopping.

Nah....got busy boxing up X-mas stuff.
Sending Mikey a present....but had to fill out a bunch of extra forms. The post office wasn't keen on shipping a 42 lb. bag of coal.
:D

Last time I was on a SWAT mission...hmmmmnever. LOL I've only been shot once; those guys get shot at all the time.
Also, I'm pretty sure that once those guys (and gals) are done kicking ass and taking names, they remove their mission watch and put on the bling.

That's part of the problem- I never take it off. :D When I say never, I mean: hair doesn't even grow under there.
Metal is not as affected by acetone as plastic and rubber. It also doesn't rip, tear, or shred.

I remember driving across the bridge from Atchison to St. Joe to score beer. :D Wait- Missouri or Michigan?

Good idea.;)

I have 2 favorite watches. 1. Is a Ball. It has a history of being used by the railroads for years for accurate timing. They make several different models but all of them have micro gas lights in the hands and numerals and can be read anytime during the night. These things glow in the dark and are very easy to read. They use swiss movments and require no battery. THey also are very tough. My #2 watch is a Tissot Ttouch. It offers both analog and digital displays and has features like temp, altitude, barometer built right in. If it had a night light It would be my #1 choise.

My GOD, I never even thought about Tissot! ..... Soapy, you're my hero! :D

The T-Touch is a sweet watch! A friend has one.... and he is a mechanic that never takes it off... :) They make a nice polished Titamium one, with metal band and a nice (flat) clasp (much like TAG's clasp, that folds into the bracelet very flat), and Sapphire crystal.... Oh yeah, and they are SWISS MADE. Here's a pic of Model T33.7.888.92 (Carbon Fiber Ana-Gigi Dial w/ polished titanium case and bracelet).

It's a little upwards on price... $500-$600.... But, well worth it, IMO.

Here is a AWESOME review on the T-Touch line....

.......... I still can't BELIEVE I didn't think of this before! :banghead: Thanks, again, Soapy!

There's that darn pesky battery thing again:p :p :D

The Tissot's pretty nice.
Too bad about the size. :D
(I have to guess because- once again- no dimensions available)

And...to put all that functionality into a watch, but not have a perpetual calendar?
Sounds like they know the folks who built the RB4.

On a side note, I returned the watches to Timex today.
When I told the (very curt) lady that I received the wrong color Ironman, we got in to a big debate about color and how my monitor is jacked and how things photograph differently, etc. It was a 400-car Excuse Train.

I'll let you guys decide:
ARE THESE TWO WATCHES THE SAME?
To vote in the poll, CLICK HERE.

Thanks for trying guys.
I appreciate it.

.....

It says it's 42mm.... (including crown)... Which translates into about 38mm just the case.

FYI- Your current Casio is spec'd at 52mm x 42mm... ;)

You really have to go and try them on in person, Kevan. Yes, two watches could BOTH be sized at 42mm. But, they can wear and LOOK completely different on the wrist.

The local dealer I could find for Tissot is actually in my home town! Gahanna, OH... :) Jewelery From Kesser... Here is their website.

http://www.jewelryfromkesser.com/loc.htm

Go try on a Tissot. :) I think you'll be glad you did.

EDIT: Other retailers are as follows (for Columbus)

Gold Star Jewelers
Jared
Macy's
Helzberg
Farah Jewlers

Thanks!
I'll stop by Kesser tomorrow. I know exactly where they are located.

BTW- my current G-shock is 48.7mm x 47.5mm x 14.8mm. Exactly.

I actually have (2) at my desk (one dig/ one analog). :)
I also have a ruler (metal), a thesaurus, a swiss army knife, a leatherman (that I've had so long it works like a butterfly knife now...LOL), and a calculator.
