OEM Tonneau Cover installation

These brackets go between the bed and cab
. Thanks for the pictures and instruction, sent a PM! Are any of those holes threaded?

You are correct, I have everything but that. Here is a pic from the donor truck. Looks like it had the bracket on the back, so will reach out to see if he can still provide it.

Was that donor truck a QC? I saw this in some random media pics that popped up and looks like the same color

Hey all, got the brackets from the original seller and finally had the time to put the cover on and get it painted. I was originally planning on doing a much more thorough write up with more pics, but kept forgetting through out. Anyways:

Some parts I obtained:

The rear threaded inserts had to be added. OEM-wise, they use rivnuts (m6 if i remember correctly). You can obtain these at any part stores, but I went ahead and got the original parts: PN 6504710 ( 2 of these). You can make a tool, get a specialized tool, or buy a simple tool at auto parts store to install these (see pic).

To remove the spoiler off the bed cover for painting, you have to remove some plastic trim clips. I just found some generic ones on Amazon to put it back on (see pic).

I think this cover had the original struts, one of the clips had broken off, and the other one loose, so decided to replace both. These seemed to work and was easier then finding a correct size strut. I took the ring clips off these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CQD8V7D2?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

(1) The spoiler just has 2 nuts you have to unscrew, then slide it back, then 2 more bolts you have to undo.

(2) I was originally wanting to get the bottom painted same as the body to match OEM specs, but since the rubber insulation was a bit tired, just decided it was more effort then it was worth, maybe some day. It had a couple scrapes on it, but black trim spray paint took care of that.

(3) Here are the brackets I was missing. I didn't worry about painting these as you can't see them when they are on other side of the bed.

(4) I just followed the measurements in the stock instructions for the front holes. They were a bit bigger then probably needed ... I just grabbed a couple bolts and nuts with washers for the side bolts. The instructions call for self tapping screws, but I was able to get a wrench back there.

(5) There was 2 factory drilled holes on the rear to line up the rear bracket, but they were too small for the rivnuts, so they had to be drilled larger. But it's great as you don't have to measure anything.

(6) Make sure to remove the cover holders and have the tailgate down before fitting it.

(7) Instructions call for 10mm flush between front/rear both sides of cover. Mine was more like 14mm. Also the left front was a little high. You can take a straight edge to the front brackets and see if they are straight. The left wasn't and is easily bendable. Otherwise you would have to redrill the front or rear holes which I was definitely not doing. There is also a little bit of play between the front and rear bracket fasteners, make sure to keep everything loose before final check.

(8) Before painting

(9) After painting. I wasn't too estatic about the paint job after awhile (some texture orange peel), but I've never gotten anything so large painted before so I don't don't know what to expect, I am wondering if it's something a detailer can clean up ... but otherwise the color seems a good match and it def completes the look.

Nice to get things done .. now for the painting

A couple of things.
1. The oem srt-10 specific 3 post wing ONLY works with the srt-10 specific ALUMINUM tonneau cover. Very easy to tell by underside of cover.
2. Srt-10 bed cover has a hump in the middle to account for the shorter post on oem spoiler.
3. All trucks have to be drilled for cover unless it was installed at factory.
4. You're probably missing 2 brackets (white in pics) at front of bed, nobody remembers to take them off because they are a pain in the ass. You can replace these with flat pieces of steel.
5. If you message me with your email I can send you the directions for the oem tonneau cover
Not sure how many, but some '05's came pre-drilled for cover. Luckily mine was one. Story I remember from back in the day was at one point all '05's were supposed to have covers, but due to some kind of supply issues only QC's got them. Some RC's may have, but don't remember if that was actually the case or not. Just know some did get drilled with the inserts.

And I think there was some kind of credit issued when they were purchased

I dont know why they would waste a product (brackets) without having the covers on the production line. Yes, QC issues stopped production of covers although some 05s got them. If they didn't get a cover then they got a drop in bedliner and a $1000 credit on the window sticker. When i run the vins it tells you.
I would have to see an unmolested low mileage truck that's drilled that the vin says it got a credit instead of a cover to believe it

I got mine new. didn't have a cover, but was drilled with the threaded inserts, no brackets or anything else and I seen a few others when I was looking, and a few that weren't. Also no drop in liner or anything like that for mine. I'm guessing that may have been an individual dealer thing or just QC? Not sure if their was a credit, have to check my paper work.
