I am a roof and floor truss manager in sw florida.Construction REALLY sux down here.My business is down 80+% from 05.Just laid my last 10 guys off in the shop last Friday.We are subbing out our production and just doing design work in my office now.Went from 75 guys down to 3!! Including me! Really want to get the F out!It's only a matter of time before they decide to close the place.Then what?? Goodbye SRT Goodbye motorcycle Man things are just soooo mess up.Up to my A hole in debt Been with this company 23 years.Cut my freaking salary in half come on Obama!! lets get this chit pointed in the right direction!!

I've been trying to find out what the unemployment portion of this bill is, but haven't been able to dig that up yet.

But I did hear just the other night that even though there has been a lot of talk that none of the infrastructure money is actually going to be spent, there are 3 new water treatment facilities right here in my backyard that will be completed with this money. The deal is that they aren't giving money unless the project is ready to go, if it's in the planning stages no cash will be coming. Makes sense to me.

Good luck everyone - hang in there. Sooner or later, if you don't give up, you will find something, I finally did. If nothing else, get yourselves back to school :rock: Check with your local job resource center, they can help you get some training and receive an unemployment extension while in school, there are pell grants and other financial aids for people.

One thing I've learned for sure is that the only thing constant in life is change ...........

What do you need to be a cell phone tower tech? I'm interested in something like that

I just saw this, well lets begin

1. not afraid of heights
2. work insane stupid hours example is 47 hours straight possibly more too...
3. like to be blamed for everything cause your clients are idiots (they can get there plans right normally in any projects)
4. work on possibly non-safe structures (non-man rated booms ect)
5. have a get it done attitude
6. like to travel and basically kiss your life goodbye (not a job a life style)
7. want to kiss butt alot cause it will move you up quickly (dead serious)
8. your superiors will never know a thing about the industry so you will get blamed alot for there mistakes in ordering and the cost of jobs
9. be able to work with really "special" people on your crew wont define special but i think you get the idea
10. some tools and a harness
11. Dont mind freezing, being wet, muddy, hot, warm, cold, tired, bored, all conditions basically!
12. Flexibility is a bonus! along with decent physical shape at a minimum

if you've said yes to all these, then your cut out for this industry
otherwise mc donalds is better! Ive just dealt with it and had a lot of bad experiences with this industry and wouldn't wish it upon anyone but hey if your game bro go for it! Im currently on my way outttttttt!

Union Plumber/Pipefitter. Just got laid off on Friday. There's 500 people at my union hall. Work looks pretty bad. There WERE 2 Casinos going up in AC but they stopped because of the economy.
