I have the hard racing rings too....took almost 20K miles for the dang things to seat....but seems to like RP 20/50...

5w20 is way to thin in my opinion, customer cars that recommend 5/20 factory fill that are over warranty we use 5/30 or thicker in.

I put in castrol 5w50 in this year and used mobil 1 5w40syn Diesel oil last year. I haven't had any problems.
