Oil everywhere, dipstick popped out, need help

Adding the oil cap breather is only going to mask the current problem. Instead of adding another breather I would find the problem and fix it. It could be as simple as a plugged breather filter (if he is using a aftermarket system) or it could be as bad as a hurt piston.

Agree with above....you shouldnt need a Roe breather being NA.....I am running 11LBs boost and have no problem with blowby even when I remove the breather.........only time I had the oil stick blow out was when I first built my engine and the rings had not seated....that only happened for a few hundred miles......your crankcase is not breathing so something is stopped up...

Took my truck out today, it's been sitting for about 2 months, right when I was getting home I smell s burning smell, popped the hood, oil everywhere, and the dipstick was popped out. Oil pressure is high, but temps are normal. It was about 25 degrees outside, and I let the truck warm up for 20 min before I drove it. I had my oil cooler lines replaced by dodge less than a year ago, because they were leaking. Thanks.

first you live in jersy, cold as hell there, what weight oil you running?

was it left in a heated garage?

did you warm it up to operating temps before driving?

if the breather system is working , which is easy to tell, basically a finger over the hose, then that system is fine, goes back to the oil and wieght

idle is between 50-75, but i dont think it was ever that high before, crank case system is breathing fine through catch can.

2 years ago I blew the bottom out of my dip stick tube, motor oil all over everywhere. It was cold as hell out at that time as well. Brought to dealer told them to fix it and clean it, 150 bucks later all fixed and cleaned. Good luck Bud ...

25 degrees outside, 10w40, let it warm up for 20 min, then hit the highway, oil temp was at 170, and so was coolant. oil psi between 50-75

What breather system do you currently have on the truck? Is it the factory setup going into the intake manifold or a aftermarket style?

i am running the jmb catch can with my jmb CAI

this is what it sounds like to me Rick

one 10w40 is a little thick for your winters, I would go with a 0w30 or 5w30,

but most likely there was residual oil in the catchcan system, now it probably didnt have time to warm like the rest of the engine, so it was minorly restricted a touch.

so when you started driving it , the presure had to pop out the dipstick.

I wouldnt think honeslty you have a problem, I would suggest dropping the oil wieght, and filter to a thinner oil, then see how she acts, I dont think you will see the problem return.

and when you change the oil , take the time to clean out the air tubes going to the catch can deal, i wouldnt think the filter would be clogged enough to affect anything.

If the catch can is too full and has alot of condensation in it, it can freeze. Make sure the breather lines are not restricted and that the catch can is not full.

Thanks everyone, solved the problem this morning, one side of the catch can lines had ice in it, one side was breathing the other was not. lost over a quart of oil. Catch can had not much in it at all, brought the lines and can in the house to thaw them out, and let them defrost. Now I just have a huge mess to clean.

That makes sense - at least it's not a mystery! :rock: Sucks about the mess though.

Perhaps route that line that froze such that condensate water can't collect in it, but would either run to the catch can or run back into the valve cover? The latter isn't desirable, but beats blowing your dipstick out.
