What should the oil temperature operating range be?----What is the lowest oil temp that can be acheived without causing any problems ?

why? what's your reading? Mine is stable at 200F after warming up...
I'm sure the more experienced fellas can chime in if you give more info.:D

Running hard or towing my boat i have never seen over 230-240deg, as far as how low it can go ??? it is usually 180 pretty quick after start up then stays 200 or so cruising around. Hope this helps ya.

If you had a RC you could get to 6th gear and the temp drops like a rock...nothing wrong with 180-200-220.

Hard to haul those extra women to the lake in a RC:burnout:

mine was 200-210 , but after DC Stage II + tstat its 180 now 90% of the time

On the freeway my is at 180 , in town 200 and at the track 220. Temp has never gone above 220.

On the highway, mine seems to stay right around 180*, but quickly jumps up to b/t 200-220* in town or even if I down shift on the highway just messin' around for fun...

Hasn't been cold enough around here yet still, but does the colder winter air affect it going below 180* out on the highway?? I understand that oil needs to stay at a certain temperature to work like it should and lubricate properly...

Okay -- The operating temp for the oil is in the range of 180 to 220 for our trucks depending on mods----would it be benifcial to try and lower it anymore than the minimum temp of 180 or would this adversly affect the life of the engine?

I dont think you will be able to get it lower than that without significant mods to the water cooling system, and oil cooling system. Both would cost some big $$$$...

The two go hand in hand, as our oil coolers are coupled to our water cooling system, so the absolute lowest you would ever get would be the average water temps you hold.... moreover oil being much more viscous than that of water retains its temps much longer.

You might be able to drop a few degrees out of your oil temps by adding another, but air cooled oil cooler, however I dont know what that will do to affect your oil pressures if you put it in line...

You could possibly (not reccomending it), drill and tap two holes on opposite sides, and ends of your oil pan, create some custom lines, add a high volume (NOT HIGH PRESSURE) external oil pump, and large fan cooled oil cooler, to help keep the temps of the oil in the pan down, thus dropping the average temps in the engine.... but your probably looking at a investment of at leat $700-800 to make that happen, plus being a guinea pig on our already tempermental trucks..... its your choice.... not one I would be willing to do....

oil needs to be 180 degrees minimum during normal driving, but 210-220 is best. colder oil will not pump through the engine as quickly, and it will not boil out the moisture and contaminants that build up inside the engine. if your oil never sees 200 degrees (if you have a stage2 and thermostat) you need to check and change the oil more often. water will build up inside the oil and cause low oil pressure and extremely fast wear and tear damage.

I concur with this opinion. As I drain my catch can the amount of water that has been mixed with the oil is obvious. Eliminating that water is important and I think that is accomplished by getting the oil temperature above 212 from time to time, or more frequent oil changes...water is a wonder lubricant, but it has other well know less desirable characteristics.

I never get any oil in my catch can. What wrong?

Are you running a hose from the back port on the drivers side to the catch can?

I put a couple of ounces in the catch can every 100 or so miles. There is almost nothing from the port on the back of the passenger side port. I also get some mist from the Roe oil filler breather.

What weight oil are you using...the heavier the oil the less mist...
