Optima battery info

My truck doesn't get out a whole lot and mostly just sits waiting for it's weekend romp. The cold is taking a toll on the battery. For the last month or so, when I crank it over it "hesitates" for a second and then cranks over.

I think I am going to check out the Optima Red tops. Anybody know what minimum cold cranking amps I need to look for? :dontknow:

You can't go wrong with an Optima! Red, Yellow, Blue......There all good. I'm sure whatever the min. CCA is for these trucks, the red top will surely be enough.

I ONLY use Optima batteries for all of our equipment and have yet to replace a single one.

im also a fan of optima batteries but i also must say that odyessy is no slouch of a battery at all.

Back in my car audio days I used 7 of the optima yellow tops wired in parallel without a single failure.I had used the red tops prior and did have one that leaked. I would go with the yellow top myself.

All you need is a Battery tender from Deltran, or a Yausa SmartShot 900.
I use the battery tender on my Harley, it sits for 3-4 weeks at a time when I am away at work and of course all winter. The battery is 7 years old with NO problems.
For the SRT I use the SmartShot from Yausa, bought it at a local bike shop and the truck cranks over as if the battery is brand new.:rock:

Even an Optima battery will discharge over time.

Not against redtop batteries or whatever.....but...

If you don't drive it very much, I suggest that you put one of the "green-knobbed" battery disconnects on the negative terminal, turn off the power and the battery will stay up for many months BUT if you are leaving it disconnected for a long period of time, maybe 8-12 months, I would also put on a battery tenderer to help trickle charge the battery.....I feel that no matter which battery you buy, sitting with just a slow discharge from elements in the vehicle will drain the battery, no matter how much you pay for the battery !! Just my $.02:dontknow:

Yeah this is really good info!!!!!!! I also use a Yausa battery tender on my motor home and it keeps the batterys charged without overloading. It is the only way to go if you don't drive her much!!

I used an Optima Red back when I had the CR-V with the 1500W system.:rock: I also set up a 12V 1A solar charging rig in my garage because I never did upgrade the alternator. You can get a solar battery charger/tender for under $200 and it would cost you a whole bunch of nothing to use it. I still keep it connected to the bike and I still have the Red on standby for the Bug.
