One thing I hate about the QC (and I doubt I'm alone) is the automatic tranny... and not specifically the transmission itself, just the fact that it's auto...

short of putting some SMG (which would be optimal) transmission in it paddle-shifters are the next best thing...
I found a few companies that do these, has anyone every tried these in our trucks??

I like the retrotek one (and they're in corona!!)

That would be way cool, but they won't fit our trucks wiht out a lot of work, including loosing the air bag. They're made for after market steering wheels/hubs I believe.

That's what I thought at first too... but then I read this
"The unique design is compatible with any three, five, six or nine bolt steering wheel flange, allowing you to maintain your factory or aftermarket wheel."

right from this article

It's just way too cool not to buy :D even if it costs a few thousand (which I'm guessing it doesn't)

The next question would be... how hard would this be on the torque/converter and transmission??? I would think you'd wear them a lot faster with this installed...

I know Stinker put a B&M rachet shifter in Joanne's QC. Paddle shifters could be done but you are talking proto type $ on half the system.

I have been monitoring this mod to the T-56 manual tranny and plan to purchase a spare tranny for drag racing in a couple of years when this is available.

It wouldn't be any harder on the transmission than the stock shifter unless you started using it all the time, then it might be. Good luck, I still say it won't fit with the air bag wheel, but I was wrong once before...;)

I remember seeing pics of the floor shifter stinker put in the QC... my only issue with that is I have an 06 and it's got all that BS in the center... the cleaner the better... his looked clean, but it was an 05

I have a 6 speed RC and I want a auto. wanna talk about doing a complete swap in both truck. it would consist of the dash(maybe), wiring harness, and a custom drive shaft for each but our shop could handle this. if you like let me know.

:proud:There you go Blaine. With that mod and your skillz you'll be able to run high 10's :hmmmm: or low 11's at the track in a stock SRT truck...:five:

Paddle shifter Mod is a idea that I have been mulling around. Talked to Shawn about it just the other day....I think it would be cool if it could shift like an Audi 8 or the 350z...Those are sweet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:dontknow: I would settle for a digital head up display like the Vettes... Now that would be cool..

yes they are sweet (well maybe not the 350z they're hella gutless)... but let's face it... paddles would make it a little less "grocery gettery".. if I have to take my truck for groceries one more time i swear I'm going to give the keys to the wife and get another sports car

I was refering to how smooth the shifts are in the 350z. That tranny is Butter

You are right on this one Steve. The transmission would not know the difference as to where it received it's input to shift from.

Line pressures and all the rest of that happy horse shit comes from the computers which are looking at throttle position, rpms, etc..

I think what the QC needs is a 6 speed auto similar to what the Corvette received in 06. This 4 speed blows.

My QC is my daily driver. In fact it is my only driver. So it is the daycare mobile and the grocery getter. :burnout: :) It is just a bit tuff in the snow.

Enjoy the ride

http://www.retrotekspeed.com/ has this posted.
"In the January issue of LOWRIDER currently on newsstands, Saul Vargas gives us the step-by-step detail on how to install a RetroTek Speed SmartShift paddle shifter into a mid-'60s Chevy Impala. Always looking for the latest custom idea, LOWRIDER found the SmartShift a perfect complement to the new digital dashboard they were installing. Now Saul can keep both hands on the steering wheel as he’s grabbing gears and scraping down the boulevard.

100% agreed... I'd have paid a several K for an SMG option... hell I'd pay an extra 1500 just to get tiptronic like shifter buttons.... with that said... I'd pay a K to get the shifter on the damned floor where it shoulda been in the first place :(

like i said i can definately set you up with a 6 speed and you can shift all you want via the floor mounted shifter. It would be a factory like install and the truck would perform flawlessly.

Look at Gear Vendors for a floor foot shifter
http://www.gearvendors.com/

GEAR VENDORS gives your vehicle up to twice the forward gear ratios for unparalleled performance. Most auxiliary transmissions are just dual ranges (put them in low for towing, high for running empty) but you still have the big gaps from one gear to the next that rob performance. You could actually go slower than you do now. The UNDER/OVERDRIVE™ is built for giving you a progression of gears with 1/2 the drop in rpm of the stock vehicle so that you stay in the power with close ratio performance. More power than just an underdrive or overdrive and just one of the reasons the GEAR VENDORS UNDER/OVERDRIVE™ is the most industry awarded transmission you can buy.
