Hey guys, I spent some time browsing the forums and reading a lot of good information. This is a badass site with really helpful/knowledgable members. I'm excited.

I drive an Infiniti QX56 as my main, but it's a work vehicle and I put a lot of miles on it and park it outside 24/7. I am interested in getting a vehicle to pamper. I originally wanted something that would be highly cosmetic with the interior/exterior customized like I've always wanted to do. But lately I've had the itch for performance. I've done a lot of looking around, but keep getting back to a pickup truck. I'm interested in getting something with exhaust, intake, turbo or super charger of some sort (perhaps twin), and am learning about all the other components for performance.

I like the idea of getting an SRT10 because it already has a great base engine (as opposed to if I got a standard 1500 or something) to build from, and from what I hear it was built to handle performance better than other trucks. Like suspension, brakes, etc.

Can anyone fill me in on why I would want a SRT 10 instead of say a silverado or F150? I know they're on completely different planes, but dollar for dollar getting a silverado-type 1500 truck up to the par of a twin turbo'd SRT10 would be very expensive and difficult, right?

I'm going to continue browsing/searching these forums too. Shloads of great info on here.

Thanks guys!

Keep an eye out for when some of the guys head to the Palm Beach Raceway. Have a look then :D
Oh and Welcome

Oh man, I'd love to do that. I'm new to all of this but verrrryy interested.

Welcome Nate.

The SRT 10 is the most vivid illustration of testosterone personified.

It was marketed as the the world's fastest truck, and many of us have modified it for enhanced performance.

It is a limited edition that had a short production period of three years, and will never be duplicated. We believe there are less than 8000 in existence.

You will never have a truck that is more deserving of pampering!

I'm just north of you,
I can show you a couple of 10s up close!!:D

When/if you get one of these trucks, we can discuss "The fine art of Pampering" to your heart's content.!:)

get one nate, leave it alone, and stay happy, turbos, superchargers, and so on lead to many many days of no driving, empty wallet, and blown engines, stay naturally asperated, and happy

Okay, that definitely sounds good to me. My concern originally was that...is it stupid, or foolish, to buy a collectable truck like this, and then do lots of customization to it. I know it diminishes the collectable/originality factor, which some people would be horrified about. I have full intent on shaving doors and suiciding doors, paint job, some interior work, etc. Do you think it's ridiculous to buy a collectable vehicle and then ruin the integrity of it's collectability like that? I'm going back and forth about it in my head.

The difference is i"m not buying this as an investment. I fully expect to lose most/all of the money I put into it. So it's not like I'm planning on selling one day as a high priced collectible. But on the other hand, I don't want to do something foolish if it's unnecessary.

See this is the kind of information I'm not aware of. Like I said, I'm new to a lot of this, and don't know most of the ins/outs and issues of creating a performance vehicle.

Hmmm...

Nate, mine is bone stock with 4000 garage kept miles. I haven't even opened the navigation CD's packaging. I love what I have out of the factory and because of this, find myself, at times, a very lonely person around these parts. If you choose to mod the truck, you must go "all the way",especially with engine work, as it seems half way will only lead to more work. Others will offer sage advice when contemplating a build. (I'm the last one for that). If this is the type of project you enjoy AND have the capital to fund it (it will be heavy wood), ....go and enjoy yourself. :) I love this site because, there are a great bunch of guys (and gals) here, who are good people, and good people to share computer time with. And every once in a while a topic (thread) will pop up that may spark some interest. Just remember what Papa Joe Mags used to say, " Act in haste, repent in leisure". Take it slow. Stick around....... It's always entertaining.

Welcome Nate...I'm a little south of you but I'm heading to Boca on Friday then up to Lake Worth to pick up a check around 4...if you're interested in seeing a stock QC SRT-10 and get a feel for it....

Thanks man, good words. I'm not one to act in haste, unless provoked. And this being strictly pleasure oriented, the only provocation I'm under is my own, so I'm trying to take this one logical/strategized step at a time, hehe.

But I see what you're saying, and it is a fear of mine. I don't want to get 1/2 way through this and be like "oops, I should have gotten a ____ and done ____ instead." But looking around at all the other vehicles out there, if I want to have a cool truck to customize and build some beefy performance, SRT10 seems to be a great choice. I just feel guilty about doing too much customization to a limited edition collectible. Like, even on the interior, I'm not the hugest fan of the dash. But some could say how foolish to change a collector's vehicle.

Anyway, thanks.

you could do just bolt on's (header, exhaust, intake) and a computer tuning and be happy....also in moparconnection's thread there is supposedly a bolt on intake manifold in the works that will be sure to add some ponies

Hey, that would be awesome. I'm going to send you a private message of my cell phone to see if we can coordinate a time.

if you add a roe or a paxton, stick with the oem boost, stay low and fat on hp, and leave it alone, an dyou will stay happy.

many of us have went twins , myself included, its hard on parts, i am on my third engine:D

fstjack, build cost $150k

scrambler 1 build cost estimate 200k

505's fastest estimate over 200k

my build area of 150k

sooooo how deep do ya want to go?

for instance big hp demands certain items

axle upgrade, clutch upgrade, tranny upgrade, fuel system upgrade, couple grand worth of guages, new fuel managment, and a ton of other small items.

Makes it sorta hard to street drive easly also,

but is it worth the 100k or so?

HELL YEAH!:D

If I was you, I would hate people like me. Because I don't know much about any of this, and here I am shooting off like "I want a performance truck, blah blah blah" but clearly don't understand the intricacies of what makes it all work. So allow me to preface by saying I really appreciate information and advice, because I am very much so in the learning stages still.

I was under the impression I could get the truck, stock, put twin turbo (for example, Hennessey has a twin turbo for like 700hp or so), exhaust, intake, cpu mod(S), and the vehicle would still be casual drivable, the integrity of the truck would not be hindered since the srt10 was already built for performance with beefy parts (so I heard, did not research), and basically all would be good except I'd be 700+ instead of stock 505.

But what you're telling me is that isn't the case, right? If I was to do something like that, I would certainly strain parts of the vehicle. I am not getting this truck to be a racer. I thought it would be fun to take to a track and mess around, but no competitive racing and all of that. It's just going to be a 2nd vehicle I want to do a lot of cosmetic goodness to, and have high performance.

wow thats a hell a lot of money for a build...could almost buy an M6 or old Ferrari for that kind of dough....lol
In that case i'm doing bolt on's strictly unless I hit the lottery...
also Nate, Hennessy's name s a no no around here I've learned...seems to have screwed a few owners over:dontknow: :dontknow:

Seems to me that Hennessey is a very nasty word around here

Oh I'm sorry. I'm new, have mercy. I only know "Hennessey" because a corvette lover in my office mentioned it to me as a known Viper performance company. I know nothing else about them beyond that.

I'll scratch that word from my vocabulary =)
