As some of you know, the engine is out of my truck. I will post the efforts to change that here, if the RESPONSES FOCUS ONLY ON THE REBUILD. I will ask the mods to remove any post concerning previous work done by others. I have much bigger fish to fry than to worry about the past.

In January, the engine started to knock. I took it in and had the valve covers pulled, but we did not find the source. When we restarted, the knock was able to be localized to the bottom end. So the engine was pulled. During pulling water was found in the oil, so we started searching for the source. AS there was not oil in the water at the oil change at 400 miles or 600 miles. The tear down did not find a smoking gun, so the heads and block were hydroed. Both passed. I should have a estimate for parts and labor by the end of the week. We will see if it is within my ability to get it done with my higher priorities.

Please remember my request in responding.

Dale have them check the oil scraper for any marks, i know its left field bud:dontknow: and the oil pickup tube.

and the thrust bearing, heck your guys def know what they are doing, best of luck bud:rock:

Dude I feel your pain. I'm a little afraid to let the shop start tuning mine for fear of what could happen... based on my past luck.

Hope you get it back together soon, keep us posted on what you figure out. I'm dieing to see that wide tired beast go down the track!

were you able to find why there was water in the oil? that might cause a lack of lubracation across a main thus the knock...my 2 cents

No specific cause was found. It is assumed that it came form the headgasket, since no other cause could be found. Everything else tested fine.

You are correct in thinking that the oil may have lead to the rest of the problems. But it happened really quick. 100 miles.

water diluted oil will do that. I'm also pushing towards a head gasket failure. Did you guys inspect them? What kind of gaskets were used and what was the tightening procedure

I am expecting to get a quote on the findings and needed repairs tomorrow. Hopefully I can afford to get it back on the road. We will see.

tiny if you find you need something, you let me know bud, whatever it is ... cost to ya:)
I jsut want ya better and happy:D

Well, I stopped by the local shop today to get the rest of the info on my truck. It may very well be out of my budgetary reach this year. The local guy wants a new cam, new crank, new lifters, new pistons, and he thinks the block needs to be re-sleeved. I am picking up all the parts, as that is well beyond what is feasible at this point.

Thanks Tony.

A big shout out to Eric (RamFromHell). He is helping me bring the truck home. Actually we are taking it to his house, and Eric is helping me spearhead some research into alternate options.

Eric is good people:rock:

I have stock pistons, rods, mains, cam, heads and camshaft. All in perfect condition.

Truck and parts are at Erics. So now I have nothing left to worry about.

Thanks again to Eric and His son. They helped me get the beast to a safe place. Now I can take my time and do what needs to be done. Eric has graciously taken the lead on getting it all coordinated for me.
