Paxton Set Up On Quad Cab

Interesting comment !!! Yes the Diesels run this transmission, but I think you will find that if you dig a little deeper, the 48RE is in actuality a TF727 which went behind small blocks and big blocks, including the REAL HEMI !!!But just like anything else, they are tamed down for driveability !!!Nothing to say you can't take some of your hard earned cash and spend it wisely on a tranny rebuild (Suncoast Converters):D !!! I'd be willing to bet that would wake up that sucker !!

I agree the base transmission itself isn't that bad, not great either. The main killer is the heavy ass converter. The Suncoast one isn't that much better (I have a full billett Suncoast) the best thing is a custom lightweight billett converter like Nowwhat and a couple others have. I forget what someone said the stock converter weighed but it was a whole hell of a lot.

I actually talked to an SRT engineer at a car show about the tranny cause that was when mine was giving up. She admitted that the 48re wasn't anywhere near the best possible, it was however the only thing they already had... wish they had just used these trucks as a platform to develop a new heavy duty tranny with more gears... like what they have in the new cummins diesel trucks.

Then two motors later.. All the best to Mike on whatever he has planned this time.

If I am correct, Hennessy converted the RC to an automatic but I am not sure if that was the 10.88 run or after. Not about to go on NFFF to search for it...

Hennessey said on ViperAlley that truck was never converted to Auto. That was just a rumor. THe 10.88 run was with a 6 speed and the turbos dialed down to only 800 rwhp. THe video is on his website.

It is the auto tranny from a 2500/3500 diesel truck and was not designed to be high performance. As such it is very heavy and robs alot of power. Also the D60 rearends are very parasitic (RC and QC) so that hurts the trucks when compared to a viper. Compound the two on a QC and the numbers hurt.

On my '05 QC WITH the full B&B exhaust (manifolds back), and WITH the Stage 2 flash, the truck produced the same wheel torque and horsepower as many of the stock Vipers that had also completed pulls on the same dyno.

So, with that said, and the fact the Stage 2 doesn't increase the peak horsepower numbers over stock, I am guesstimating a 30 horsepower loss due to the automatic and Dana.
