PCM, which is better?

I have the mopar ecm. I like it, I could tell the difference as soon as I plugged it in. It raises the rev limiter, and by a seat of the paints fell it changes the power curve up. That being said a few local trucks in my area have vec computers, boomers computer, the dc computer and they love them, and from what I have been told they are way more aggressive in the tune. What you want all depends on the green your willing to spend. I got my computer for $220 from a local mopar dealer,or if you pocket book allows you can spend up too $900+. Spend it if you got it.

The mopar pcm with the factory tune alone is $200 so thats a pretty good deal! I have a 2nd PCM with a 93 octane tune from B&G Chrysler Perormance and the tune alone is $590 plus the additional $150 for the VIN to get programmed in. So the Mopar PCM on the site is quite a bit cheaper. Don't forget you get what you pay for.

Do you know how much more it raises the rev limit?

soo that's means mopar pcm are more like basic level, as for vec, boomer, dc and another are more like high performance, correct?

Yes...well kind of...the pcm you get via Boomer and DC are aggressive but safe, I think they get them from the same source. The VEC III is designed to be programmable...I have five different tunes for my VEC III...for the following purposes:

"NO START" - if someone is going to steal my truck they will have to drag it off...no way to hot wire it, or even if they have the key...no start means no start!

I also have a 91 Octane tune for emergencies when 93 octane may not be available.

Then I have a tune for 93 Octane without meth injection;

A 93 octane tune with meth injection (Hot Rod)

And finally I have a Valet Tune...max rpm is 2500...

I can change the tune on the fly via a card reader in the dash.

I leave the tune on "Hot Rod" most of the time...if I park where people can get to the truck (anywhere other than my garage) I use the "No Start" card. Have never used the 91 octane card, or the Valet Tune...would not dare let a kid drive my baby....

The VEC III is a piggyback. It does not change your pcm, it just intercedes before the instructions from the pcm get to the operating part of your vehicle! You need a knowledgeable person to program the VEC III.

One advantage to the more conservative MOPAR flashed pcm is that it does not affect your warranty. As with all mopar add-ons, dealers cannot use them as a reason to void your claims. But they will raise their eyebrows a little and think that you abuse your truck...duh...

Many who have a flashed pcm (non-mopar) keep their oem pcm and put it in before going to a dealer.

Hope this helps.

wow! how do u get all these five different tunes in pcm?? ok im thinking to get mopar pcm first then get flash/pcm from boomer?? but will it be fine if my truck get problem can i take it to dealer WITH mopar pcm?? or NO?

You are going too fast...first if you are going to get a Boomer flash pcm, just keep your stock one and put it in when you go to the stealership.

The VEC III is programmable on the fly...see the reader that I can put program cards into below...just need a card with the program on it, and the reader installs the tune I have selected and inserted...reader is the dash shelf the number of different tunes is only limited by the number of cards you want to carry:

ahh i see, hmm ok i think boomer's flash/pcm is better opinion to get, how much does it cost to get another pcm w/ flash?

AFTER TALKING TO THE ENGINEERS OF THE MOPAR PERFORMANCE KIT. I WAS CONVINCED TO GO WITH THEM. THIS TUNE IS SPECIFICALLY FOR THE MOPAR HEADERS AND CAM. I HAVEN'T YET INSTALLED MY CAM. I'M VERY HAPPY WITH MY SET-UP.

ahhh well i want to get mopar header so i guess i should get mopar and since i prefer mopar. does mopar pcm need to have mopar headers and mopar camshaft install too? just wondering

ok cool, thanks man! i decided to get mopar pcm then mopar headers then maybe mopar exhaust or magnaflow :D

Its pretty cut and dry. If you have the resources to buy the boomer or dc or vec buy it you can't go wrong. If your wanting to upgrade past the stock computer to raise the rev limiter and and give your truck a little more pep, and your not wanting to drop the big money on a ecm go with the mopar. I have one, I think it works great. But opinions are like noses everybody has one.:burnout:
