Somebody I know just caught a plane to the Phillipines to meet his internet love connection. He is going to the southern islands, Davao. I read the state departments warning. It wasnt very pleasant. Kidnap for ransom gangs operate where he is going. My freind did not tell anybody he was going until he was at the airport. I think he was afraid we would talk him out of it. He has never met her and knows nobody there........they have been interneting for about a year.

So what are the chances of my friend coming out alive [with or without bride] or am I gonna have to hire Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal and Snake Plisskin in a rescue attempt/jail break ala..... "Escape from the Phillipines":damnmate:

May God go with him.......

I wouldn't travel to the Phillipines if you gave me Imelda's shoe collection....

That place is 10 times as corrupt as Mexico... and I don't go there either....

I love the Mexican people, but that fkn government is corrupt as hell.....

God bless the USA....

Davao City which is the southern part (Mindanao).

Actually he cant bring the potential wife home.......visa issues, but he could get married ( I dont think he will).........I just hope she is for real and he comes home safe.

One of my employees is doing the same thing!! 2nd time around for him.I asked him if he learned anything from the first go round.Shrug of the shoulders and said hey I got 6 years out of her, time for a new one!!WTF!
Can't believe this guys mindset. If you have to get your wife out of a the back of a magazine something is WRONG! To each his own I guess!

Most of the PH islands are great places safe enough to visit with your family. Not sure about this Davao? As far as the women go most are pretty, hard working and sincere about starting a new life there or elsewhere. But since 911 the US just doesnt hand out Visa's so bringing her back proly wont happen unless this guy has spent the last year getting things lined up. Also most of the time the warnings the state dep & other agencys put out are based on old info or here say. I travelled Africa & the Middle East for more than 10 years without issue but thats me. Iam sure if your friend has been around a little he should be just fine & more than likley you will be amazed by his stories and maybe get out and see that there is more to this world than your back yard.

I have to agree a little with NMV. The State Dep warnings, while not fictional, always err on the side of the extreme.

If your friend has any street smarts, and is just careful about how he conducts himself, he should be fine.

I do however, question his smarts when he doesn't tell anyone that he is leaving until he is at the airport, not wise at all.

Good luck to him. I am reasonably sure he will return unscathed.

Questionable and yes I would agree, not smart.

NMV............I have no problems traveling.............but to a third world dump....no thanks!! We have tens of thousands of Filipinos on Maui. Most will tell you their home country is not safe and to never travel there alone.....especially the southern region. Reaction from my Filipino friends that my haole friend traveled there alone..... was not good.

My grandmother is from the Phillipines...No B.S.! But then again, she lived in a concentration camp and then married my grandfather. Since then the only filipinos I have met are her sister and family and all the others I have met here.....must be a reason they wanna come here.:)
