Just what you need, another project. You have your boat and the 928. Finish one of those before you start something else.

And speaking of such, what's happening with the 928?????:dontknow:

Got more news John.... it's a 427 replica , with a small block 350 upgraded to a 427 cu.... :dontknow: ... it's around a 7 liter he told me. He drove the car at Spa Franchorcamps and was amazed by the power and car , only the brakes he found inferior for that power... ofcourse for "race" use... enough for street driving. Again as he told me , one must be very carefull in 1ste gear
not to spin around  ... and even possible to start in 3the gear...
The car was sold last year to a Belgium industrial but traded in again as he found it to "wild" .... :)
Perhaps you see some things on the pics worth mentioning ? Normaly i visit him saterday or sunday.... Yes, that one has my interest...

Okay my friend, here is what I can tell from the pictures.

It's a Contemporary Cobra, which is not a bad kit, but to my knowledge they are no longer in business. They may have been taken over by different company with new name. You know the Cobra forum I'm on, so if you like you can drop over there and ask some questions.

The motor is a FE series which was the 352, 390, 427, and 428 CI engine series. Not bad motors, but I personally was not a big fan of the FE series engines. Generally these engines are in the 400 to 600 HP range.

Rear suspension is from a Jag with the inboard brakes.

Front suspension is a torsion bar design. Then means you cannot change the spring rate without changing to a different bar.

Brakes. Well the rear are the stock Jag inboard brakes with solid rotors. The front are also solid rotors. This explains the brake fade when he was at the track.

Frame. The frame appears to copy the original in that it uses 4.0 diameter tubing for the main frame rails. This was one of the weak spots on the original cars as they tended to flex more than you would want for a race car. Also they will not collapse in a head on collision, so there is no crumple zone.

Handling. As I have stated in the past, these cars make a Viper look civilized. You have a 90 inch wheelbase with the same amount of HP (that can vary up and down) and less tire. You have to have it pointed the direction you want to go before you floor it. Even then it can get loose.

Now this guy was not even on it and look what happened to him.

In short, these cars can be wicked and will kill you in a heartbeat if you don't respect them.

Okay, back to this car.

If you are looking for a Cobra to drive on the street when the weather is nice, it will satisfy you. However, if you are thinking of ever taking it to the track, then you will be disappointed in the handling and brakes for the reasons I identified earlier.

Hope that helps you out. Let me know if you have any specific questions I can help you with, or you can always post them on the Cobra forum.

thanks John for the comments.... now perhaps also important ... can you guess what the value would be in the US now ? let's assume everything about that car is good and in working condition.

And for me it would be nice weather street driving... sure not for race use . ;)

The link to the site below is probably the best site for Cobras that are for sale.

http://www.cobracountry.com/home2.html

I did a quick search and they show two Contemporary cars for sale. One is listed at $37,900, and the other is sold, with an asking price of $59,000.

The thing with a kit car is the price can really vary depending on the build quality.

Based on what little I know about the car, I'm going to guess it would be priced in the $30,000 to $45,000 range.

I do have a couple pieces of advice for you.

If you are really interested in the car, have it inspected by someone that is not emotionaly involved. They need to check all the mechanical components, paying real close attention to the suspension connections. Remember, this car was probably assemblied by someone in their garage. Now if it was someone like me, FSTJACK, or yourself, then you could be pretty sure that the quality was there and everything was done correctly. However if it was done by someone like Scooby, then you would probably be taking your life in your hands.

I cannot tell for sure from the pictures, but it appears that it only has lap belts. If true, buy some new ones and make sure you get a 5 point harness. The cockpits on these cars is cramped, and both your and your passenger will end up eating steering wheel or dashboard in the event of an accident. And it doesn't even take that severe of an accident to by hurt by those items. And go with a 5 point, not a 4 point. You will slip under the belts with a 4 point. That is what my car came with and I replaced them as soon as I could.

Once again, hope that helps.

John, again thanks for the description.... as i intend it just for nice weather cruising ( and a occasional burnout  :D ) are there type differences that really matter ? Ok, naturaly i love HPs... but....is a less HP cobra better to choose because it's a monocoque instead of tubular chassis.... ( crumple zone )? front springs to choose above torsion bars ....? really important things ?

He told me it was the nicest they have seen as it has a correct "patine" as oldtimer...and a scary engine.

OK, 5 points harness i can install directly...
When going visit the dealer i will make a sound clip of the engine ;)

I see it as a show car .... to enjoy little roads with hair in the wind.....going to the sea, visiting some pubs.....not to reach high speeds ;)

Well let's start with the engine first. "Scary" is a relative term. What scares one person may excite another. I would hazard to guess that it's no more powerful than my car is. Is mine scary? To me it's not, but I do however respect the bitch.

Going by memory, the Contemporary Cobra was very exacting to the original, with the exception of the front suspension it appears. The hood has the rivets and while I could not see the hood scoop, I would guess it has the rivets in place also. The dash layout is correct, or so close to it that most would not see the differences. It has the splitter in the grill opening and the overriders and bumper hoops.

My guess is that it's an older car, so when you look at it get the year the kit was manufactured. Also get the serial number. By the picture it appears to be CCX-2 4073, but I'm not sure.

Here is a link to the Cobra Forum where I have requested some information on the car.

http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101803

You might check that link occasionally to see what they have to say. I will also keep you informed here.

Hope that helps.

Very nice car John. Reminds me of the one I used to own about 15 years ago. Mine was a Black, Contempory Classic replicable of a 66 with an original 427 side oiler fully built. It was an absoulutely crazy car to drive. Specially when you're young and don't know any better.

Any one here familiar with Porsche Speedster replicas?

I have long thought about a nice little speedster with a small block, wide tires, modern suspension...here is the visual image I have in mind:
