Anyone ever had a bad pinion bearing in the differential? Mine started making light noise like a bad manual gearbox and has progressively been getting louder over the last 3 days. It's going to the dealer Monday.

Thanks Robert (TheMopaConnection) for diagnosing the problem over the phone half way around the country. Patrick told me he only knows of 1 other member who has had this problem.

Is that near the muffler bearing? :)

I gotta take mine in as well to replace the power steering pump, thanks Patrick at Avondale for sending me a new one.

I guess it could always be worse, at least you havent blown a motor :)

Could be as simple as a loose pinion nut, but, that usually ends up with a worn crush sleeve then destroys the pinion bearing and so on.:(

Pinion bearigs do fail,:2in1: although not that common.............my .03 cents

Truck was dropped off at the Dealer (Westlake Dodge). They set us up with a free rental car (Toyota Corolla) for 5 days:rock: . The pinion bearing falls under warranty. They are also going to take care of transmission, paint, and door rubber molding under warranty.

They all miss Robert (MoparConnection) and haven't found a suitable replacement for him. I highly recommend Jeff Hightower at Westlake Dodge to all our Socal members.

Got the truck back at 7 tonight. I've already put on 300 miles for the breakin period. No more pinion bearing noise and no transmission slippage.  They even replaced all my door rubber. I am one happy customer. Thank You Westoaks Dodge.

If you need a reputable dealer with excellent customer service skills I would highly recommend Westoaks Dodge.
