PIR on 7-18-08....

luis, doug & i went drag racing friday night, had a blast !!! :rock:

gotta say though, i only picked up 3/10's using the drag radials over my stock tires & the track way slippery as hell.......

alot of racers were complaining about the track prep & i gotta say it seemed alot better in may.....
regardless, i tried different launches:
2500rpm, way too loose
1500rpm, still not grippin' good
idle was the best, but was still breakin' loose in second & third (tire pressure was 17psi)....

i went thru the water box each time & from the videos it looks like not much of a burnout...... should i have drove around & did a dry burnout ? :dontknow:

best run was 12.91 & slip/slidin' all over........:burnout:

alot of racers say that woodburn is much better with their track prep, guess we should try there next.......:dontknow:

I am trying to figure out the same thing. I was told to do a good long burnout and stay out of the water box.
You have the M&H 390's right?

i do........ i'm going to avoid the water box next time to see if it helps.......

The long burn out would be with the water box.

The water box is helpful for those running slicks. If you tried heating up slicks dry, I think it would chew the crap out of them (I always used the water box with slicks, so I'm guessing here).

i'm running drag radials, still use the water box ?

Oh yea boy!!!!:rock: :rock:

It was fun!!...Except when the bikes had preference cuz they were on a competition BS! but oh well...My best time was 13.55 @ 105.47mph with a .165 RT and a 2.192 60' ....That was my best pass of the night...And just like Randy said the track really sucked!!! I didn't have to much traction either ...Randy let me know when u planning to go down to woodburn ...So i can request it off k?

Hey Moparracing, I got my burnout advice straight from John at M&H. The drag radials do not like as much heat as drag slicks. I use the water and then hold the line loc for a two count then release ( 1001...1002...release). By the way what was the 1/8 mile ET and speed along with the 1/4 mile speed? I am curious about the air quality up where you are since our mods are similar.

I agree with Trainman on how long to heat up the M&H's. John told me the exact same thing. The street tires are a different story, I would give it a five count on the burnout. I would also like to add that never drive the front wheels thru the water. Always drive around the water line and then back into the waterline to heat up the DR's. This way you do not get any moisture from the front wheels causing your backs to spin at launch.

that's pretty much what i was doing, the track must have been the reason for slippin' all over the place.......
my best run #7 was:

rt = .212
60 = 1.953
1/8 = 8.350
mph = 84.96
1/4 = 12.917
mph = 108.35

thanks....... my mods are a complete b&b exhaust, sct tune, line lock, caltracs & drag radials....... all feedback is appreciated.

Wow... I counted 11 runs! My only advice would be let the truck cool 30-45 minutes minimum between runs. I usually only make three runs in a single night...and that includes a good hour cool down after the tech line. I use dry ice on the intake manifold between runs. And I don't let off the gas between shifts. I shift at 6000 rpm from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd. Then on the 3rd to 4th shift I make that at 5600 rpm. That has netted my best ets and speeds to date. I made one run where I short shifted at 5500 every gear , but the only gain I picked up was between the 1/8 mile and the 1000 foot increment.

good info, thanks...... "power shifting" ? i don't know if i got the nerve to do it, especially since i missed two shift's in those 11 runs........

what shifter are you using ?

I have an XMetal Gen IV, but I used a shorter handle on the stock shifter with good results. Also SRTBrad has a B&M shifter which I have driven and it works great too! Do a search in the media section for my video called "shifter test" and see what you think.

it looks like your throttle foot never leaves the floor during shifting, but the engine sounds like you're lifting ?? what are you doing ?:dontknow:
