cant they make any thing easy, I am trying to take off my intake to put on my 100.00 spark plug wires, a ratchet wont fit and on the back 2 bolts on the driver side cant even hardly get my wrench on. Also I am thinking How do I get them back in there without dropping at least one beneath the intake?

God cant they make any thing simple anymore. I have been out there for a hour and a half and still got two bolts left for the intake and when I was taking the inside one out on the driver side I dropped it underneath the intake and cant reach it , so now I am stuck taking the whole thing off.

Sorry had to vent, And all my so called friends run when its time for them to help me.
 
Can't get to with a magnetic thing?

Try wrapping tape (backwards) on a coat hanger or something else flexible.
 
OK what tool will get that back bolt? I WEnt and got the star head but wont fit when you add the ratchet to it and a regular wrench just aint working
 
I had trying to take the intake off before but I really was frustrated with how difficult it can be. I thought it would be easy and I was wrong. I dropped a lot of bolts inside the intake. I got them out of the intake with the magnetic stick. You can them at Autozone. I decided to give up and took it to thedealer and have them do it.
 
What you need is a short head socket with a universal joint attached. I had Dan at DC Performance remove the 2nd to last bolt on the drivers side, that is a major pain in the butt to remove. Believe me, I feel your pain.
 
I am trying to remember what Joe and I used to get Mutt's intake off. I think we just used a small ratchet with a short extension. Joe may remember better, he was the one sitting on top of the engine to get to those bolts.

And yes... we dropped a bolt or two also! The magnet is your friend!!

well now I thought if I removed the fuel rail that it would give the room I need to get that back bolt,,,,,well what a dumbass I am ,I ended up dropping the bak bolt and dont know were it went, It did not hit the floor. and the fuel rail wont come up unless i take the hoses off that looks like they are made not to come off. Jesus if I would have known all this I would have saved my money.

I did trying that too and it would give the room and help you to get the bolts back. BUT it won't help you any that good to get the intake off anyways. You will need a lot of bright lights so you can see where the bolts landed on. I know how you feels, sorry man and good luck. If you was living near to me, I would come over and help you to get these damn bolts back.

Stick its ok bro:D the bolts are not that special so you can pick them up anyhere.

Now you need a magnet, 1/4 inch rachet and socket with a long 1/4 inch extension, with a small light.

Here is the easy tricky part, hold the socket with the magnet.

Run the extension connected to the rachet thru the slot in the rear of the intake.

Take the magnet and socket and carefully slip it over the bolt head, and then insert the extension into the socket, remove bolt.

When you get it unscrewed, use a screwdriver pop the socket and bolt loose from the extension, again using the magent remove the socket and bolt.

when installing just do things in reverse/

they make a torx bit that is super long, sorta like a t handle but its very very high, not really worth the dollar once you get a handle on things.:D

Oh and go to a bolt store and get some nice looking stainless bolts, or a auto parts place and some nice chromys:D
 
Stick, when you put the manifold back on, you should invest in some 12 point polished stainless bolts rather than using the factory bolts. The heads on the 12 pt bolts are much smaller so the installation and subsequent removal(s) of the intake will be MUCH easier...the bolts, as I recall are 1/4 X 20 one inch under the head. I got mine through Summit, but they can be had a lot of places. Any local hardware that has specialized bolts should have them, they're pretty common and the size is extremely common. Take an old one with you.

yes and the only way it fits is were the fat side of the wrench is right against the intake , so no room to turn. so I tried to tighten it a little thinking that would give me a different angle on the wrench to loosen it but that dont work either. I thought this would be about a 3hour job ,,,,,boy was i stupid for thinking that.

Well, shit I'm of no help as usual...it's be over a year since I did mine and I recall it being a real drag, but I can't remember how I finally got it done...too much Coor's Light since then I guess. :eek:
 
You can get standard size Torx (star) tools that will fit into a 1/4" socket, put the torx bit into the 1/4" socket and use about 9 inches of extension with a ratchet, now run this down through the center of the intake manifold and onto the bolt you want to remove. I hope this helps. You can also go to a auto glass shop and buy a roll of Butyl tape for about $5.00. This is a very sticky black adhesive that will not only hold the Torx bit in the socket, but you can also use it to hold bolts onto the tools you are using. If you get too much butyl on something and want to remove it, just grab a small ball of the butyl tape and dab the area you want to clean and it will come right off. Just keep it away from fabric, it doesn't clean off of fabric very well.

I know it's a pain, but don't give up. It can be done. I know JMB Justin has done a few of these and PBJ did mine. Justin and Joe both said it was a royal pain but they both got it done.

well I have bought every ext and swivel and star known to man and the smallest diamter ext. and it wont fit through the intake and cant get the star to fit into the bolt from the outside,,,, I am loosing my mind and about to f it and throw all the shit in the garbage
 
Its easy as cake if ya just use a magnet , put the socket on the bolt then run the extension thru the slot:dontknow:

I've had mine off a dozen times and the QC at least 3:D
