I was wondering if anyone has tried taking a dremel and some metal polishing compound and tried polishing the viper lettering on the valve covers. I tried searching the forums, but had no luck.

sorry put this in wrong section, meant to put in visual if someone could move it that would be great

DO NOT USE A DREMEL...U nuts

If anything take them off and tape off around the letters. U might want to go to an autobody and paint store to get their fine painters tape. Then fill in around the rest of the valve cover with regular masking tape.

Start with maybe 1000 grit paper n water. Dont use your fingers use a sponge as a backing pad.

Then use a 1500 grit paper n water.

Then 2000.

Buffing wheel-small one not the 6 or 7 inch varialbe speed polisher. I think harbor freight has the small 3" pnuematic air gun. Uses a 3" compund wheel, 3" buffing wheel and has a 3" faom wheel. We use thi for detailing the hard spots.

Buff with rubbing compound, then swirl remover then polish.

Should come out glassy.

Only problem will be keeping it that way. I have yet to see anybody clear coat aluminum and have it keep. Powdercoating is MUCH better.

Just my $.02

Perfect guidance!

I started with 320 to get the grooves out then 600,800,1200 then hit it with some 3000. I did all of this with a DA sander. Then I polished over that with some mothers. It probably took about 10 minutes a side at the most.

I get the picture, Im going to use a variable speed rotarty tool like a dremel, with felt tip and metal compound made for polishing non ferrous metal, but if this is to aggressive I understand Ill do it your way, I should have explained my proposed procedure better, I have used the same stuff and tool on my wifes platinum wedding ring and had perfect results. Is the aluminum clear coated?? It didnt look like it, thanks for the help

It's not cleared. I did mine at work( bodyshop). I have all of the sand paper I need.

Spend 89 bucks.

Sorry I couldn't resist it. If you can do it for less do it up bud. I saw a set done like Rhino's and they look sweet. They are kinda rough stock.
