I have a question about ported heads.

when you buy these or have this done, do you need to port the intake manifold also.

I wanted to do high flow heads when I order my headers, seen the one's on roe's website and wanted to see what gains they give.

Does any body have run these.

Sorry for so many questions guys but trying to find some good info and so far this seems to be the site.

Dont have to port the intake...of course you could find a few more ponies doing so but not required....I have Roe's SC ported heads....

at least port match intake to heads?????

Yeah, what he said...

ok so if i bought say the ported heads from roe racing

Do you need any mods to the motor like rods or pistons or will this be a bolt on with no problems with internals failing, like when you do forced induction.

its just i want to do my homework before i take the test, Ya know guys

Ported heads and other bolt on mods..headers, intake, exhaust, tune....no reason to forge the motor....FI=forge the motor....

Porting the intake helps the flow to the heads (smooth/even, slightly larger air mass flow). If you have the time and money, port the intake also.

More air in, and more are out...

No addition mods required, but you might as well put hardened push rods while doing so, for about 150 bucks.

If you port your Intake Manifold or have it done, it seems like a gain of 10 horsepower is normal (ALL in the upper r.p.m. range).

Ported o.e.m. heads vary as to how much power they provide.
You should also get a cam to take advantage of the ported heads.
Somewhere around 90 wheel with ported o.e.m. heads and a cam would be considered a really good gain.

Forged pistons are never a bad idea (along with forged rods) but the wrong tune has more to do with piston failures than the power your engine produces; at least with the normal add-on performance items. You can buy the stock o.e.m. pistons WITH rods AND piston rings for less than $48.00 each, so that should tell you something about them...;)

I ran mine for 62,000+ miles with the stock reciprocating, without any issues. And that is with LOTS of track use and LOTS of heavily loaded dyno pulls.
But it also had a proper tune.
