Shared meaning is the goal of communication. Anything that gets in the way of that is noise. Poor grammar, lack of punctuation or even the use of vocabulary that is not common to both the sender and the receiver lessens the chance of achieving shared meaning.

If you don't write well seek help. It's very important.

Hep mi! Hep mi! :( :p

Good thread D!

I never liked English class in school, and never did very well in it. But, for some reason the teachings stuck with me, and I am now very critical of my own grammar and punctuation. (I have always been a lucky guesser when it comes to spelling;))
I saw a post on the internet somewhere once that was slamming the whole "shortened words to save time" thing that a lot of Bloggers and (phone) text messagers use. It was really pretty funny and I need to find it again, because it shows how being lazy is really a lot of work!

Having been an instructor for as long as I have, and having had the experiences and learnings in communication that I have, I have to agree 100% with Roy. The way that you communicate is very important and should never be taken lightly. This is the only "face" that most people on the internet ever get to see of you, make it a good one!

On the other hand, the way that you choose to communicate here says a lot about your personality. Maybe that is why you should be very cognizant of how you come across?

Seriously....How do you guys think I communicate? Do I sound Krazy or is it all in my head? BTW, Why does it seem that everybody has shunned me recently? Did I piss somebody from NM off?:D:D:D

Only you really know. But if you are serious, time to become accountable and move from "kid" to adult.

I see your point there Tim, but I think some people just don't give a Rat's Ass. IMO

Bill.

An interesting commentary of some of the strange spelling constructs in American English. Many of these strange constructs have bedeviled spellers (and me) for many years.
The European Union commissioners have announced that agreement has been reached to adopt English as the preferred language for European communications, rather than German, which was the other possibility.
As part of the negotiations, the British and American government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement. Consequently, they have adopted a five-year phased plan for what will be known as European English (Euro for short). In the first year, “s†will be used instead of the soft “c.â€
Sertainly sivil servants will resieve this news with joy. Also the hard “c†will be replased with “k.†Not only will this klear up konfusion, but typewriters kan have one less letter.
There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the second year, when the troublesome “ph†will be replased by “f.†This will make words like “fotograf†20 persent shorter.
In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expected to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will encourage the removal of double leters, which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of silent “eâ€s in the languag is disgrasful and they woud go. By the fourth year peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing “th†by “z†and “w†by “v.†During ze fifz yer, ze unesasary “o†kan be droped from vords containing “ouâ€, and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinatins of leters.
Und after ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German lik zey vonted in ze first plas.
