In preparation of my drop this winter I am going to replace my tie-rods and wheel hub/bearings. I figured why not change the ball joints too but I can't find anything on how to just some people saying they're lifetime and you don't really need to unless they're completely shot and some saying they go bad in as little as 6000 miles. Can someone shed light on this? I've never replaced ball joints before so I have no experience.

i would vote for it. they are not expensive. RockAuto has the best, IMVHO, MOOG's & with the discount code.

changed oil on mine today & found both lower boots ripped/torn/cracked. how long don't know.

the lowers are press ins, so ya will need that tool & the uppers are an assembly, replace the whole A-Arm.

i don't believe in screwin around with steerin or brakes. in doubt fix it:rock:

I planned on using Moog but couldn't find any definite info about what could be changed or what not. Every thing I've read is conflicting haha. Upper looks like it will be a breeze if it's the whole assembly but the lower looks like it can be a pain.

Hmm, I thought the front wheel bearings replacement meant the entire front hub. Wrong?:dontknow:

It does that's why I put a / haha

you will need a ball joint press, probably be able to borrow or rent one from Auto Zone or the like:rock:
should be able to replace the lowers without removin lower A-Arms

I didn't bother replacing the lower ball joints. I just found some good used Lower control arms with good joints already in them for $75 bux.

The upper control arms come with ball joints installed. Autozone carries aluminum arms. Other places have steel ones.

Now I read stuff about rivets and replacements being screwed in what's that?

I thought you just pressed the new ones in?

From what I have heard from guys who have done them (pressed in or out)
is that they are a massive PITA!

Not worth the time.

If you are planning on dropping your 10 I recommend using Justin's shortened sway bar link.

Oh yeah. That's a good suggestion. I would have gotten them if I wasn't a cheap ass. I just cut and welded mine together. Worked like a charm.
