Beyond the Sun....
Well guys.. I was promoted about 3 weeks ago at my company.

You might remember how I was a bit worried with my company being taken over by a rival competitor, because they already had a "me" at that company.

Well, that person who was "me" there, moved on another role.

So now, I am the Sr. I/T Security Consultant for Banner Health. We are in 7 states, 35+ facilities, 35k+ employees.

You might know us if as we are located in: AZ, Cali, Alaska, Nebraska, Wyoming, Nevada, and Colorado.

Its a whole lot more responsibility... no more pay just yet... but right now in this economy, I am glad to just have a job.... in my opinion, healthcare is a safe place to be... as there will always be those who need doctors/hospitals.

way to go scott!!! :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:

Thanks... I know I have been really quiet here this past month or so... just been so damn busy at work.....

Congrats to you :congrats: :congrats:

If Banner needs any good office help, let me know

Congrats to you. Its times like this that make me realize how steady my job is in the Army 100% medical and dental is nice too

My wife's company is about to be purchased (closing at the end of this month).

It is a stressful time. Chris is in the "C" suite and people with the word Chief in their title are often swept aside in an acquisition...we don't think that will happen because she is the top technical person and the company acquiring is a financial entity that buys, builds and sells companies. But if she is set aside there is a nice parachute in place.

Interestingly, she has a desire in the change...she wants to add control of IT. The systems area has been the "toxic waste dump" of the organization for years. Chris is determined to turn it into a support entity with a service motivation rather than its current three year old attitude of "the world revolves around IT", and "systems controls"...

First and foremost in her desires is to only have IT security a step or two above that required by Sarbanes-Oxley rather than the paranoid "Web Sense" environment that is the current standard.

Sorry, got on my platform again...

P.S. We have had more arguments in our last five years about her company's IT department than anything else. I would have killed the IT VP years ago if I worked there.

Congrats Scott!!:rock::rock: Good to see someone "making it"!!!!

Roy, I am still available! ;) :p

I keep mentioning you...as a matter of fact you came up in a discussion when we were at dinner with the HR VP...Joe wrote you a letter a few months back I believe...Chris says that if IT comes to her, her first conversation with the IT boss will go like this: "How long do you need to find another position? May I have your resignation as of that date, today?"

Congrats Scott.

Roy, when you say Web Sense, are you talking about the software? If so, I didn't even know if those guys were still around. I knew all of them pretty well, from when they were just a startup.

Tell the wife I could use a job too!

If he is talking about the software, they are still around... we looked at them here.. but they were too costly for what we got... so we choose to go a proxy route.

That's cool. I haven't talked to anyone there in years. I remember doing a huge install of that software at Gateway years back. Had to make it work with the Checkpoint firewalls that I installed. Also installed Mimesweeper there and the full ISS suite. Had a guy there that was just a bit paranoid hehehe.

I am a tad bit paranoid also... but I also know that we live in a real world, and business has to function.

I had to be a bit on that side myself. I was running our entire managed services. We managed firewalls and IDS for a lot of customers, mostly fortune 500 and government. So not only did I have to worry about their security, what was even a bigger issue was our own security. Especially since we had to have multiple redundant sites to use for monitoring and management. We were allowed 0 downtime. Not one second a year! It was challenging, but also a lot of fun.

Yup...her company still has it...every site is killed and access is only allowed by exception. One of the areas that reports to Christine in R and D. They have to get every site they want to use opened by an elaborate process that can only be approved by the IT guy. What over kill!

Holy Moly.... we allow all but specific categories (ie: Porn, gambling, lingerie, games, and those like them) also referred to as: explicit deny/allow all.

All in all, we are fairly open... and I still get complaints on various blocks... I would go nutz if I were setup in the reverse of - deny all/explicit allow.

Yup, he is a control freak and has finger print security on all IT offices, and just has everything tied up...every one of the executive staff has told the new owners that he has to go. Christine wants the honor of making it happen.
